Malfitano’s five-decade legacy at Lynn University began in 1972 when he joined as an administrator. Now serving as Senior Major Gift Officer, he is best remembered for transforming Fighting Knights athletics. From 1987 to 2015, he guided the program’s most successful era, with teams winning 23 of Lynn’s 27 national championships

Malfitano helped evolve Lynn’s intramural and recreational offerings into a nationally recognized athletics powerhouse. His leadership secured memberships in the NAIA, Sunshine State Conference, and NCAA Division II, laying the foundation for lasting success. He recruited and supported every athletics director and head coach through 2015, ensuring consistency across all programs.

Under his guidance, the Fighting Knights earned three Mayors’ Cups as the SSC’s top overall program, along with 23 regular-season and 11 tournament conference titles. Nationally, Lynn consistently ranked in the Learfield Directors’ Cup, proving the depth of achievement across all sports.

In 2024, Malfitano was inducted into the Lynn Athletics Hall of Fame and received the Distinguished Alumni Award—an honor now named in his honor.
