Bill Evers | Eckerd College | Baseball | 1973-1976

Evers played catcher for Eckerd baseball from 1973 to 1976, earning All-American honors twice. At graduation, he was the Tritons’ all-time leader in runs batted in with 158, a mark that still ranks third in school history.

In 1975 and 1976, he made program history as the first Eckerd player ever drafted, selected by three MLB teams. He spent three seasons in the Chicago Cubs’ minor leagues, playing catcher and first base.

Evers began coaching in 1980 and became a minor league manager in 1987. Over 19 seasons, he won 1,381 games—second-most among active managers of his era—and captured five league championships.

He later joined the Tampa Bay Rays as Bench Coach, Scout, and Field Coordinator, and finished his career as a Minnesota Twins coach from 2018 to 2021.

Evers’ legacy has been honored with induction into the Eckerd Athletics Hall of Fame, the International League Hall of Fame, and the William H. Kadel Alumni Medal for Outstanding Career Achievement.
