Dr. George Samuel | Barry University | Tennis Coach | 1990 - 2021

Dr. George Samuel spent over 30 years as a guiding force for Barry tennis, putting the men's and women's programs on the map.
 
Samuel led the Buccaneers to five NCAA Division II men's tennis national championships, including three undefeated title runs. He was tabbed National Coach of the Year by the ITA 1999 and 2013 and also earned eight Regional Coach of the Year awards along the way.
 
Samuel guided Barry's men to 16 SSC Tournament Championships and five regular season titles. He added three tournament titles with the women. For his efforts, he was honored as SSC Coach of the Year more times than in anyone league history in any sport. Samuel collected 21 total league Coach of the Year awards, with 17 trophies coming on the men's side.
 
He steered the men’s program to a 588 and 139 record in 30 years and added a 308 and 122 record in 18 years with the women. He coached 58 men's tennis and 24 women’s tennis athletes to All-American status during his tenure.
 
Samuel has mentored many of the best and brightest in Buccaneer history, including three NCAA Woman of the Year Finalists, five SSC Scholar-Athletes of the Year, two SSC Athletes of the Year, 10 SSC Men’s Tennis Athletes of the Year, and three SSC women’s Tennis Athletes of the Year.
