Dr. Joan Davison | Rollins College | Faculty Athletics Representative | 1991 - 2022
Dr. Joan Davison began serving as the Faculty Athletics Representative at Rollins College in 1991 and held the position until her retirement following the 2021-22 school year. During her time at Rollins, she influenced thousands of Tars student-athletes as a political science professor and the number one fan in the stands. Her passion for her students and her love of competition resonated across campus.
Davison, a frontline advocate for the inclusion of women in collegiate athletics, helped make Rollins one of the foremost leaders in Title IX execution at the NCAA Division II level. For her work, she was honored as the 2020 NCAA Division II SAAC Dr. Dave Pariser Faculty Mentor Award winner. The award recognizes faculty members at Division II institutions for their dedication to supporting and mentoring student-athletes, as well as their commitment to student-athletes lifelong learning, competition, and well-being.Davison was active nationally in her role, most notably serving as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative Association president for the 2019-20 school year.
Davison wasn't just a sideline supporter; in 1987, she was inducted into Wheeling University's Athletics Hall of Fame. A 1978 graduate of Wheeling, Davison was the first female elected to the school's hall of fame following her standout career as a basketball player for the Cardinals. She will also be inducted into the Rollins Hall of Fame in March 2023.
