Shannon Aitken s the most decorated goalkeeper in University of Tampa women’s soccer history as she was the starting keeper of the 2007 National Championship Team. In 2007, she was named the National Player of the Year, becoming the first player in program history to earn the distinction. The 2007-08 Sunshine State Conference Female Athlete of the Year was also a two-time All-American and two time All-South Region performer.
Also a 2014 inductee to the University of Tampa Athletics Hall of Fame, Aitken was a four-year starter for the Spartans from 2004-07. During her career, UT posted a 65-11-8 overall record while going 25-4-3 in Sunshine State Conference play. She played in four NCAA tournaments, won three SSC tournament championships and earned the victory in nine NCAA tournament matches.
Aitken was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference first-team a total of three times. She was also named to the 2006 Sunshine State Conference All-Tournament Team. She ranks first in program history in wins, ties, saves, games played, games started, and minutes played by a goalie.
She also ranks second in save percentage and holds the single-season records in wins, minutes played, and games started by a goalie.
