Dr. Gordie Howell - Rollins College, Director of Athletics, Soccer Coach
Dr. Howell, former athletic director and head soccer coach for the Tars, was one of a handful of pioneers of the SSC. He wrote the initial soccer handbook for the Division II Conference and served on countless SSC and NCAA committees. He was Rollins' soccer coach from 1968-1982, taking the team to national prominence, as the Tars won six Florida Intercollegiate Conference championships and one SSC crown. His record as soccer coach was 157-62-16. He was AD at Rollins from 1983-1992 and continues to teach there today. He guided the program into the modern era of athletics, organized the athletic department and significantly increased its scholarship endowment. He was inducted into the Rollins Hall of Fame in 1988. The Western Carolina University graduate earned his master's degree from Rollins and his Ph.D. from Highland University.
