Just hours removed from its SSC tournament title, Rollins was awarded the No. 2 seed in this week's NCAA Division II South Region Men's Basketball Championship.  The Tars will be joined by third-seeded Florida Southern and Barry, which grabbed the sixth seed.  The regional tournament will be hosted by top-seeded Arkansas Tech March 13-16.

Three SSC women's basketball teams have received bids to compete in the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball South Region Championship.  Tampa was tabbed as the fourth seed, while Barry received the No. 5 seed.  Barely removed from its first-ever SSC tournament title, Lynn was tabbed as the No. 7 seed.  The regional tournament will be hosted by Arkansas Tech March 12-16.

No. 5 Lynn staved off a torrid comeback from No. 3 Barry to post a 54-52 victory in the final of the 2010 BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Sunshine State Conference Women's Basketball Championship.  Tournament Most Outstanding Player Chelsea Patterson led the Fighting Knights with 21 points, and Kira Harvey nailed the game-winning three-pointer with four seconds left on the clock.  In the men's final, No. 2 Rollins held off No. 5 Barry 66-59 to win the 2010 BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida SSC Men's Basketball Championship title.  Tournament Most Outstanding Player Myk Brown paced the Tars with 16 points, while Nick Wolf, who also earned all-tournament honors, tallied 13.  The women's tournament title will be decided at 3:30, when No. 3 Barry and No. 5 Lynn square off.

Seventeen student-athletes have been recognized as members of the 2009-10 All-Sunshine State Conference Men’s Basketball Team, announced Thursday by Commissioner Jay Jones.  Florida Southern’s John Thompson was selected Player of the Year, while FSC’s Linc Darner was named Coach of the Year.  Lynn’s Michel Vidal was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year, and Nova Southeastern’s Brian Cahill was chosen Freshman of the Year.

Eighteen student-athletes were named to the 2009-10 All-Sunshine State Conference Women’s Basketball Team, announced Thursday by Commissioner Jay Jones.  Barry’s Mariesa Greene was selected Player of the Year.  Tampa’s Caitlyn Mitryk was chosen Defensive Player of the Year.  Tampa’s Tom Jessee was tabbed Coach of the Year, and Lynn’s Kira Harvey was named Freshman of the Year.
