Swimming Team Captain, All-American, Double Major

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech women's swimmer Savannah Brennan has been named the 2019-20 Sunshine State Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The junior swim team captain holds a 3.97-grade point average while pursuing a double major in Genomics and Molecular Genetics and Biomedical Science with a minor in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. 

Voting for the award is conducted among Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Athletic Communication Directors, and Faculty Athletic Representatives from the 11 SSC member institutions.

Brennan, a native of Oviedo, Florida, was named Florida Tech's 2020 Outstanding Student of the Year for the Department of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering and Sciences. She was also named a 2020 Distinguished Student Scholar by her university for completing more than 55 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher. Brennan has earned every CSCAA Scholar All-American, SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, and Dean's List award she has been eligible for during her career.

For the past several years, Brennan has served as President of Florida Tech's Tri-Beta National Biology Honor Society chapter and Secretary of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. On-campus, Brennan held various laboratory positions and currently serves as an Undergraduate Research Assistant. She has also worked with Team IMPACT along with the Panthers swim team and coached for the Brevard Breakers Swim Club.

In the pool, Brennan was named a 2019-20 CSCAA All-American and was awarded First Team All-SSC accolades. The junior earned silvers in 1000 Free and 1650 Free at this year's SSC Championship. She also scored points for her team in the 400 IM, 400 Free Relay, and 500 Free. Brennan currently holds six school records in individual events and four relay records along with her teammates.

She is the first swimmer and third Florida Tech student-athlete to be honored as SSC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year since the award was created in 1995-96. Previous Panthers to win the award were: Kari Wanat (Volleyball - 1999-00) and Marina DeBiasi (Cross Country - 2017-18).
