Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of February 10 - 16, 2020. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Mark Matthews / Nova Southeastern University / Sr. / Forward / Bonita Springs, Florida
Matthews is awarded Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after averaging 31.5 points and 8.0 assists across two SSC contests last week. Matthews began the week with a game-high 31 points and six assists in NSU's 104-71 victory over Lynn University. The Bonita Springs, Florida native, followed with a game-high 32 points and 10 assists during a 102-96 home loss against No. 6 Florida Southern College. Matthews scored his 63 points by shooting 69% from the field (29-42) and 71% from the free-throw line (5-7). The senior played 76 minutes for the Sharks, where he totaled 16 assists, 11 rebounds, and a steal. The weekly award is the seventh of his career, which ties him for fifth all-time in SSC men's basketball.
Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Jalyn Hinton / Florida Southern College / Jr. / Forward / Boston, Massachusetts
Hinton earns his second consecutive, fourth overall Defensive Player of the Week honor this season following FSC's wins against Rollins College and No. 5 Nova Southeastern University. The Bostonian began the week with four blocks, a steal, and two defensive rebounds in FSC's 77-72 home victory against Rollins. Hinton stepped up in FSC's 102-96 win at NSU, blocking seven shots and pulling in four defensive boards. Offensively, Hinton provided his team with 32 points, six offensive rebounds, and four assists.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Julia Jenike / Florida Southern College / Guard / Jr. / Bethel, Ohio
Jenike takes Player of the Week honors following a pair of conference wins. The Bethel, Ohio native began the week with a game-high 20 points in FSC's 74-59 win against Rollins College. She followed with a game-high 19 points as the Moccasins came from behind to defeat Nova Southeastern University 71-62 on the road. Jenike totaled 39 points by shooting 44% from the field (14-32), 29% from behind the arc (2-7), and 100% from the free-throw line (9-9). In her 71 minutes on the court, she recorded 10 rebounds, eight assists, and six steals.
Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Hailey Conley / Nova Southeastern University / Jr. / Guard / North Franklin, Connecticut 
Conley takes Defensive Player of the Week honors following her performance in NSU's two conference games last week. The North Franklin, Connecticut product opened the week with 12 defensive rebounds, three steals, and a block in NSU's 65-59 win over Lynn University. Conley then tallied six defensive rebounds, two steals, and a block in a 71-62 home loss to Florida Southern College. Offensively, Conley provided the Sharks with 26 points, five assists, and three offensive rebounds.
 
Baseball Player of the Week
Dan Sullivan / University of Tampa / Jr. / First Base / Palatine, Illinois
Sullivan led Tampa to a road series victory at Carson-Newman University last week, earning him the Player of the Week nod. A native of Palatine, Illinois, Sullivan recorded multiple hits in all three games and produced a slash line of .667/.733/1.167. The junior opened the series 3-for-4 on Friday with a home run, five runs batted in, and three runs scored. Sullivan collected three hits in Saturday's game with a double, RBI, and walk. In Sunday's rubber game, the first baseman helped the Spartans to a series win with a 2-for-4 performance, including a double, walk, run scored, and an RBI. For the week, Sullivan tallied eight hits, seven RBI, four runs scored, three walks, and 14 total bases in 15 plate appearances.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Garrett Goodall / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Jr. / Nanaimo, British Columbia
Goodall is awarded SSC Pitcher of the Week honors following his efforts against Savannah State University on Friday. The Nanaimo, British Columbia native tossed nine shutout innings in a 9-0 ERAU victory. He allowed seven singles and one walk in the outing, striking out 11 batters. Goodall held the Tigers to a .219 batting average complete-game victory. The weekly award is the second of his career.
 
Softball Player of the Week
Maggie Scott / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Sr. / OF-1B / Weston, Florida 
Scott reached base 10 times in 12 plate appearances to help ERAU sweep its conference-opening series against Lynn University. The Weston, Florida native accounted for seven runs across the three games with three runs batted in and four runs scored. Scott went 9-for-11 from the plate, drew a walk, and stole two bags while tagging nine bases and slashing .818/.833/.818. Her top performance came in game two as she went 4-for-4 with two RBI, three runs scored, and two stolen bases.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Ashley Worrell / Rollins College / So. / Oviedo, Florida
Worrell wins Pitcher of the Week honors after taking the circle three times in Rollins' series sweep over Nova Southeastern University. The sophomore started game one and tossed a seven-inning complete-game shutout (4-0) with six strikeouts, no walks, and four hits allowed. The Oviedo, Florida product relieved the starter in game two, earning the win (4-3) after navigating just three hitters in the top of the seventh. Worrell got the start in game three and threw an eight-inning complete game, allowing two runs, two walks, and seven hits. She struck out five as the Tars won the game three (3-2). For the week, Worrell totaled 15 innings pitched, 12 hits allowed, two runs allowed, two walks allowed while striking out 11 and recording three wins, a 1.20 ERA, and a .9333 WHIP.
Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
 
Bryan Wright / University of Tampa / Sr. / Attack / Moorestown, New Jersey  
Wright repeats as Offensive Player of the Week following Tampa's 24-7 victory over Young Harris College. The senior from Moorestown, New Jersey, scored a career and game-high five goals (one unassisted) in the victory. Wright placed eight of 13 shots on goal and added a career-high seven groundballs. The senior also recorded an assist which lifted him to a career-high six points, while also causing a turnover in UT's decisive win.
 
Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Lee Rowden / Palm Beach Atlantic University / Fr. / Goalie / Prosper, Texas
Rowden takes Defensive Player of the Week after a .640 save percentage against Barton College. Rowden, a native of Prosper, Texas, stopped 16 of 25 shots on goal while facing 38 total shots by Barton. The Freshman also picked up two groundballs as PBA went on to win 12-9 on the road.
Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week
Mark Urso / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Sr. / FOS / Newtown, Connecticut
Urso is awarded Specialist of the Week for his performance in the X during ERAU's match at the University of Montevallo. The senior faceoff specialist won 17-of-22 faceoffs (.773) in the 13-6 loss. Urso also picked up 13 groundballs and scored a goal in the contest. The weekly award is the third of his career.
  
Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Ashlee Wilsynski / Saint Leo University / Fr. / Attack / Nottingham, Maryland
Wilsynski earned 11 points by netting six goals and tallying five assists to lift the Lions over Lenoir-Rhyne University and No. 13 Limestone College. The Freshman attacker also inked five draw controls, a ground ball, and a caused turnover on the week. Wilsynski, a Nottingham, Maryland product, scored a hat-trick in each contest over the weekend. Against the Bears, she earned three assists to pair with her hat-trick, won three draws, picked up a ground ball, and caused turnover. At No. 13 Limestone, all three of her goals came from free position shots, while adding a pair of assists and two draws.
Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Ashley Salvett / Saint Leo University / Sr. / Defender / Syracuse, New York
Slavett won 16 draw controls during the week against Lenoir-Rhyne University and No. 13 Limestone College. The senior defender picked up seven ground balls while causing a pair of turnovers. Her work helped the Lions prevail against both south region foes to go 2-0 on the critical week. The weekly award is the second of her career.
 
Men's Golfer of the Week
Max O’Hagan / Florida Tech / Sr. / Surrey, England
O'Hagan shot three straight sub-70 rounds on the way to winning the Matlock Collegiate Classic at Lone Palm Golf Club on February 10-11. The senior won the tournament by nine strokes at 14-under and finished with a final score of 202 (69-66-67). His performance over the three rounds broke multiple school records, including the lowest 54-hole total (202), best 54-hole score vs. par (-14) and tied the record for career wins (2). O'Hagan led the tournament in par-4 scoring at 9-under while leading the field in birdies (15) and finishing second in total pars (38). He recorded a birdie or par on 53 of the 54 holes over the week. O'Hagan's efforts helped guide No. 12 Florida Tech to a second-place finish at the Matlock with a score of 875 (+11). The weekly award is the fourth of his career.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Seher Atwal / Rollins College / Sr. / Delhi, India
Atwal won the Flagler College-hosted World Golf Invitational at Slammer and Squire in St. Augustine. The senior was the only player at par or better in both rounds, shooting 68-72 (-4) for a one-shot win over Nova Southeastern University's Valentina Albertazzi. The victory was the first of Atwal's season and fourth career. Atwal's performance led Rollins to a second-place finish at the event. The Delhi, India native now has five career Golfer of the Week awards, which ties her for third-most all-time.   
 
Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Andres Cabezas / Florida Southern College / Jr. / Guayaquil, Ecuador
Cabezas is awarded Athlete of the Week following his performance against No. 3 University of West Florida. The Ecuadorean dominated singles play, winning 6-2, 6-4 over the No. 30 singles player in the nation Juan Cabrera. The Moccasins, who lost the nail-biter match by a 4-3 score, relied on Cabezas' win in the #4 flight to stay in the match.
Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Daniela Farfan / Barry University / Jr. / Buenos Aires, Argentina 
Farfan went 2-0 singles and 1-0 in doubles as Barry defeated SSC foe the University of Tampa and NAIA No. 2 Keiser University. Against UT, Farfan defeated Corbin Dorsey (6-4, 6-0) in #3 singles. Along with teammate Xiyao Wang, Farfan defeated Keiser's NAIA No. 6 ranked duo of Anais Gabriel and Anais Ruyssen (6-3). The Argentinian then defeated Anais Ruyssen (6-0, 6-1) at #3 singles.
