Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Melanie Canfield / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Jr. / Outside Hitter / Tallahassee, Florida
Canfield becomes the first Eagle to win Offensive Player of the Week in volleyball following her performance during a perfect 4-0 opening weekend. The Tallahassee, Florida product recorded a total of 59 kills, 10 blocks, and 66.5 points while hitting .385 across sixteen sets. Canfield set a program single-match record when she hit .739 with 18 kills and only one error in just 23 attacks in a sweep of Lees-McRae College. She then put down 21 kills and had four blocks in a 3-1 win over the University of West Georgia. Canfield currently leads the conference in kills/set (3.69) and is ranked sixth in the SSC in attack percentage (.385).
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Olivia Roa / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Sr. / Libero / Port Orange, Florida
Roa grabs her fifth career Defensive Player of the Week award after her efforts in ERAU’s perfect opening weekend. The Port Orange, Florida native, collected 92 digs and 13 assists as the Eagles went 4-0 at the Flagler Saints Classic. Roa’s 37 digs in a 3-1 win over the University of West Georgia are the most in a single match in the SSC this season. She currently ranks second in the conference at 5.75 digs/set.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Alyssa Rudd / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Sr. / Setter / Tallahassee, Florida
Rudd is awarded Setter of the Week for the third time in her career after totaling 191 assists, 29 digs, and 12 kills at the Flagler Saints Classic. The Tallahassee, Florida native eclipsed 50 assists in two of ERAU's four matches, including 55 in a 3-1 win over the University of West Georgia. Rudd recorded a double-double with 52 assists and 11 digs in a 3-2 win over Flagler College. She sits atop the SSC leaderboard with 11.94 assists/set.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Claudio Rivadeneira / Palm Beach Atlantic University / Sr. / Forward / San Fernando, Chile
Rivadeneira picks up his second career Player of the Week honor after scoring all three of PBA’s goals in a pair of wins last week. The Chilean opened up the week by scoring in the 79th minute during a 1-0 win against the University of Montevallo. Four days later, Rivadeneira scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute and knocked in the game-winner during a 2-1 overtime victory against No. 18 Spring Hill College.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Elliott Barker / Palm Beach Atlantic University / Sr. / Goalkeeper / Harrogate, England
Barker takes Defensive Player of the Week for the third time in his career after leading PBA to a pair of wins in goal last week. The Englishman posted a clean sheet and two saves in a 1-0 win against the University of Montevallo on Monday. In an overtime victory against No. 18 Spring Hill College the following Friday, Barker tallied four saves and allowed one goal.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Kathryn O’Brien / Rollins College / Sr. / Forward / West Springfield, Massachusetts
O’Brien earns her third career Offensive Player of the Week accolade following a game-winning goal against No. 6 University of West Florida. In a 3-2 win, O’Brien assisted Chynna’ McGirt’s goal in the 34th minute and then knocked in the final score of the game with just 35 seconds to play in regulation. The West Springfield, Massachusetts product also had a goal and an assist in a 4-0 victory against Colorado Christian University, giving her a total of six points on the week. O’Brien is the first Tar to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors since September 12, 2016, when she last won the award.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Hannah Menard / Rollins College / Gr. / Defender / Winter Park, Florida
Menard played all 180 minutes in Rollins’ wins over No. 6 University of West Florida and Colorado Christian University last week. The Winter Park, Florida native helped the Tars upset the ranked Argonauts 3-2 on Friday. Her work led the Tars’ defensive efforts, outlasting UWF 15 shots to eight. Menard anchored a Tars defense that held CCU to just three shots on goal and no scores as RC cruised to a 4-0 victory.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Shane Bracken / Saint Leo University / Jr. / Foxford, Ireland
Bracken paced Saint Leo's men's cross country team at the annual Mountain Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida on Saturday in Gainesville. The Lions placed fourth out of the 31 teams while Bracken took second out of the 310 runners on the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:25.7, trailing just the University of North Florida's top runner by only two seconds. Bracken was the lone Division II runner inside the top-four runners, beating out SSC foe Ryan Szklany (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University) who finished in fifth.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Zoe Jarvis / University of Tampa / Jr. / Tampa, Florida
After sitting out the season opener due to an injury, Jarvis returned to lead the Spartans to the non-Division I title at the annual University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational. The Tampa native was the top non-Division I runner while finishing fifth overall among the 306 runners who qualified in the race. Jarvis finished the 5,000-meter course with a time of 18:15.3, leading the Spartans to their second top finish of the early season.
Men’s Golf of the Week
Chris Fosdick / Florida Southern College / Fr. / Middlefield, Connecticut
In his first collegiate event, Fosdick, a true freshman, tied for fifth place by one stroke at the Doc Gimmler Classic. The event, hosted by St. John's University (N.Y.) at the historic Bethpage Golf Course, featured twelve Division I teams. Playing the Red Course, Fosdick shot a two-under, 68, in his first round, followed by an even 70 in round two. His final round 69 left him one stroke from first place for the tournament. With the play of Fosdick, Florida Southern finished sixth place as a team.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Helen Kreuzer / Lynn University / Sr. / Bensheim, Germany
Kreuzer took first place at the UIndy Fall Invitational, setting a new school and tournament record with a 54-hole score of nine-under-par 207. The victory was the fourth of her career, putting her in second place in Lynn history. The senior shot an opening-round 73 before going a second round that produced a school-record 65. Her round also set a new competitive course record for women at the Prairie View Golf Course and tied the overall competitive course record. She closed out the tournament with a three-under-par 69 to finish with a 10-stroke victory. Kreuzer was the only golfer to shoot under par for the event. With the two school records, Kreuzer is now first in program history in 18- (65), 36- (138) and 54-hole (207) scoring. She is also the only golfer in school history to post three rounds of 68 or better.
