Valedictorian of Rollins College Class of 2019

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Rollins College women's rower Elizabeth Berry has been named the 2018-19 Sunshine State Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The senior was named Valedictorian of her graduating class and earned All-SSC honors in 2019.

Voting for the award is conducted among  Athletic Directors, Senior Woman Administrators, Athletic Communication Directors, and Faculty Athletic Representatives from each of the 11 SSC member institutions.

Berry, a native of Zionsville, Indiana, graduated from Rollins in the Spring of 2019 with a 4.00-grade point average in Psychology and Spanish. The Valedictorian earned multiple scholarships during her final year at Rollins, including the James Fay Endowed Athletic Scholarship and the Dean's Scholarship. This past year, she was honored as the Archibald Granville Bush Award winner from the college's Division of Science and Mathematics and the Fiat Lux Award honoree, which is presented to outstanding seniors who have made positive contributions toward illuminating the campus and community.

Rollins named Berry to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List, and President's List eight times during her college career, while also bestowing the 2019 Senior Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year title on her. Berry, a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi women's fraternity, held the Co-President role for Voices for Women on campus and served as the PanHellenic Vice President of Accountability.

In the boat, Berry was named All-SSC by conference coaches following her performance at the SSC Championships. Her Varsity-4 boat finished third place at the 2019 event. She was also part of the V4 that finished fifth at Dad Vails and third at the SSC championship in 2018, as well as the 2018 boat that won the V4 conference as rase and finished fifth at Dad Vails. This year the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association recognized her as a national scholar-athlete for the third time and she will earn SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll status for the fourth time.

She is the fourth Rollins student-athlete to be honored as SSC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year since the award was created in 1995-96. Previous Tars to win the award were: Jill Razor (Basketball 2000-01), Charlotte Campbell (Golf - 2003-04), and Lauryn Falcone (Cross Country - 2012-13).
