Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of May 6 - 12, 2019. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.
Baseball Player of the Week
Yorvis Torrealba / University of Tampa / Jr. / OF / Parkland, Florida
Torrealba earns Player of the Week honors following his offensive performance in a series win over Florida Southern College. The junior outfielder went 7-for-12 at the plate, recording a hit and scoring multiple runs in all three games. Torrealba's top game of the week came was the final contest where he went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI off of two solo home runs. For the week, he slashed .583/.688/1.333 with three home runs, four RBI, and eight runs scored. The Parkland, Florida native finishes the regular season leading the Sunshine State Conference in batting average at .417 and runs scored with 55.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Shane Haight / Saint Leo University / Sr. / Odessa, Florida
Haight grabs Pitcher of the Week honors following his complete game shutout effort against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University last week. The senior hurler threw his first complete game of the season by tossing 114 pitches and scattering six hits. The Odessa, Florida product struck out four batters to earn the victory, which takes his season record to 4-5 on the season and lowers his earned run average to 4.99.
