Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Myron Hagins / Eckerd College / Sr. / Forward / Ocala, Florida
Hagins earns Player of the Week honors by averaging a double-double in a pair of neutral-site games last week. The Ocala, Florida product began the week with a 35-point / 15-rebound double double as Eckerd defeated American International College, 73-70, in Lakeland. Hagins reached a career highs in points and rebounds against AIC. The next day against Northwood University, he tallied a game-high 16 points accompanied by nine rebounds in a 61-60 loss. Hagins scored his 51 points by shooting 46% from the field (19-41), 67% from the free-throw line (6-9), and 41% from behind the arc (7-17). The senior played in 96% (77) of his team's minutes, where he totaled 24 rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Rusty Moorer / Saint Leo University / Jr. / Guard / Crestview, Florida
Moorer becomes Defensive Player of the Week following his efforts in Saint Leo's 64-57 win against Walsh University. The Crestview, Florida native piloted a Lions defense that held Walsh's Top-10 offense to 36.1 points below its season scoring average. With the play of Moorer, Saint Leo stymied the Cavaliers shooting, holding them to 29% from the field and 21% from behind the arc. Moorer also helped hold opposing guards to a collective 22.5 points lower than the season average for Walsh's core. The junior scored a career-high 26 points in the win and added five rebounds (all defensive), an assist, and a steal to his stat sheet.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Hailey Conley / Nova Southeastern University / Jr. / Guard / North Franklin, Connecticut
Conley takes Player of the Week honors following a pair of home non-conference wins at the Shark Holiday Classic. The North Franklin, Connecticut product opened the week 11 points and five rebounds in a 70-68 win against Ohio Dominican University. The next day, Conley scored a career-high 30 points while pulling in seven rebounds in a 70-63 victory against the University of Findlay. Conley scored her 41 points by shooting 42% from the field (13-31), 80% from the free-throw line (4-5), and 42% from behind the arc (11-26). In her 62 minutes on the court, she tallied 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Jordan Tully / Nova Southeastern University / Sr. / Forward / Winnipeg, Manitoba
Tully is awarded Defensive Player of the Week honors for her performance at the 2019 Shark Holiday Classic. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native, had two blocked shots and a steal in the opener against Ohio Dominican University. She followed with a career-high four blocks along with two steals the next day against the University of Findlay. Tully was a force in the paint, contesting numerous shots throughout the weekend, helping NSU hold ODU and Findlay below their season averages in points per game. Tully also provided her team with 28 points, eight rebounds (all defensive), and two assists across the two victories. She now has 15 blocks on the season, which leads the SSC.
Men's Swimmer of the Week
Brett Saunders / University of Tampa / Sr. / Newark, Delaware
Saunders led the way as Tampa took first-place at the fifth-annual Spartan Invite. The Newark, Delaware product set a school record in the 200 Breast with a second-place time of 1:58.39. Saunders then brought home gold in the 200 Back with a time of 1:45.36. He also finished third-place in the 100 Breast at 55.02. Saunders’ times in the 200 Breast, 200 Back and 100 Breast are all NCAA “B” cuts. The weekly award is the third of his career and the second this season.
Women's Swimmer of the Week
Elizaveta Bazarova / University of Tampa / Jr. / Neznamovo, Russia
Bazarova was Tampa's top swimmer at the 2019 Spartan Invite, helping her squad to a second-place finish behind Wingate University. The Russian had three first-place finishes, plus a silver medalist effort during the four-day event. Bazarova's best performance of the week came on day three with a win in the 100 Breast. Her time of 1:02.00 goes down as a new school-record time and satisfies the NCAA provisional mark. Bazarova registered wins and NCAA “B” cuts in the 50 Free (23.13) and the 200 Free (1:49.65). The sophomore rounded out the invite with a second-place finish in the 100 Free (50.22).
