Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Alex Boone / Nova Southeastern University / Jr. / Middle Blocker / Burnsville, North Carolina
Boone scores Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading NSU to a 2-0 record during the final week of SSC play. In a three-set win at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Boone had 12 kills and hit .480 with zero errors. In the season finale at Florida Tech, she had 10 kills in just three sets, hitting .444 with only two errors. On the weekend, she hit .465 and averaged 3.67 kills and 1.33 blocks per set. With the play of Boone, the Sharks finish the 2019 regular-season with six consecutive wins.
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Rachel Wisian / Eckerd College / So. / Middle Blocker / Georgetown, Texas
Wisian takes Defensive Player of the Week honors following her play at the net on the road against Barry University and Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Texan opened the week with six blocks and three digs in a 3-2 win over the Buccaneers. She went on to record 10 blocks and three digs in a loss to the Sailfish. For the week, Wisian provided the Tritons with 2.4 kills, 1.6 blocks, and .6 digs per set.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Biatriz Souza Berti / Lynn University / Sr. / Setter / São Paulo, Brazil
Souza Berti earns her fourth Setter of the Week honor this season following 13.25 assists per set across two Lynn victories last week. The Brazilian started her week with a career-high 65 assists in a 3-2 win at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, which is the most by a Lynn player since 2002. She added 41 assists to her stat sheet as Lynn swept Florida Tech on the road. For the week, Souza Berti tallied 106 assists, 17 digs, two kills, and a block. With the Play of Souza Berti, Lynn has claimed the 2019 SSC title and has won 14 consecutive matches.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Christian Peevy / Lynn University / Jr. / Guard-Forward / Chicago, Illinois
Peevy is named Player of the Week with a strong performance in Lynn’s 95-89 win at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The Chicago native scored a game-high 29 points against the previously undefeated Eagles by shooting 91% from the field (10-11) and 90% from the free-throw line (9-10). In his 32 minutes on the court, Peevy also provided the Fighting Knights with seven rebounds, two blocked shots, and an assist.
Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Romeo Crouch / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Jr. / Guard / Titusville, Florida
Crouch is named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season following his performance against No. 18 Florida Southern College and Lynn University. The Titusville, Florida native registered a game-high four steals along with four defensive rebounds during a 106-95 home win against the nationally-ranked Moccasins. During a 95-89 home loss to the Fighting Knights, the junior had a game-high eight steals and grabbed three defensive rebounds. Crouch scored 40 points for the week while averaging 6.0 steals, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. He currently leads the SSC with 4.4 steals per game.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Dori Nagy / University of Tampa / Forward / Jr. / Pecs, Hungary
Nagy grabs Player of the Week accolades after leading Tampa to victory against Nova Southeastern University in the SSC opener. The Pecs, Hungary native scored a game-high 23 points, including the game-winning shot at the buzzer. Nagy was 64% shooting from the field (7-11) and 75% from the line (9-12) as the Spartans took down the Sharks, 72-70, at home. The junior forward also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and dished an assist in the victory.
Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Bekki Kalaydjiev / Florida Southern College / Guard / So. / Vienna, Austria
Kalaydjiev takes Defensive Player of the Week honors for her role in FSC’s wins over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Barry University. The Austrian tallied six steals, four defensive rebounds, and a blocked shot as the Moccasins bested ERAU, 65-49, in Daytona Beach. In a 59-54 win in Miami Shores against the Buccaneers, Kalaydjiev recorded two steals and two defensive rebounds. For the week, the sophomore guard averaged 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 points, 4.0 steals, 3.0 assists, and .5 blocks per game while helping FSC hold ERAU and Barry to season lows in points scored.
Men's Swimmer of the Week
Matias Lopez / Florida Southern College / Jr. / Asuncion, Paraguay
Lopez’s performance at the 2019 Panther Invite earns him Swimmer of the Week for the third time in his career. The Asuncion, Paraguay product led the Moccasins to a team victory in this year’s event thanks to three individual golds and a relay win. Lopez finished first in the 200 IM (1:51.89), 400 IM (3:57.82), and 200 Back (1:47.78). The junior also finished second in the 500 Free (4:32.97) and anchored FSC's gold medal 400 Free Relay team. Lopez reached NCAA “B” qualifying marks in the 400 IM, 200 Back, and 500 Free.
Women's Swimmer of the Week
Sasha Maslova / Nova Southeastern University / So. / Moscow, Russia
Maslova takes Swimmer of the Week for the fourth time this season following her efforts at the 2019 Fall Frenzy Invite in Charlotte. The Russian took gold in the 400 IM (4:20.16) and 200 Fly (2:00.42). She also finished second in the 200 IM (2:02.76) and fourth in the 100 Fly (54.71). All four of her times are NCAA “B” qualifying marks, rank first in the SSC, and rank Top-10 in NCAA Division II. Along with her individual performances, she helped NSU’s 400 Medley Relay to gold and an NCAA “B” qualifying mark (3:52.37).
