Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Taylor Fosler / University of Tampa / Jr. / Middle Blocker / Ocala, Florida
Fosler played a crucial role in Tampa's sweeps of No. 3 Palm Beach Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University last week. Against the No. 3 Sailfish, Fosler led the Spartan's offense with a team-high of 12 kills in the match, tallying a kill percentage of .296. She also produced one assist, two digs, and three block assists for UT. Fosler hit an outstanding .538 against the Sharks, earning eight kills on just 13 attempts. The Ocala, Florida native also provided the Spartans with two block assists in the win. Fosler currently leads the SSC in hitting percentage hitting at .425, as the Spartans move to 13-1 overall and 6-0 against conference competition.
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Nicole Dominguez / University of Tampa / Jr. / Libero / Apopka, Florida
The play of Dominguez helped Tampa earn 3-0 victories against No. 3 Palm Beach Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University last week. Dominguez led the Spartans' defensive efforts against the No. 3 Sailfish with a team-high of 14 digs. Against the Sharks, the Apopka, Florida product totaled 19 kills, three assists, and one service ace. On the season, Dominguez has now recorded 200 digs and is averaging 3.85 digs per set. The Spartans are currently 13-1 overall, 6-0 in the league.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Sammy Mueller / University of Tampa / Jr. / Setter / Gainesville, Florida
Mueller earns the second weekly award of her career following Tampa's wins over No. 3 Palm Beach Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University last week. The Gainesville, Florida native quarterbacked the Spartans' offense with 31 assists against the No. 3 Sailfish. Additionally, she logged one ace, one block, and eight digs in the 3-0 victory. Mueller then tallied 27 assists and six digs in a 3-0 victory against the Sharks. This season alone, Mueller has stated 554 assists, averaging 10.46 per set, and is currently 5th in the SSC in assists. Tampa is now 13-1 overall and 6-0 in SSC play.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Christoph Gums / Florida Southern College / Jr. / Midfielder / Greifswald, Germany
Gums played a role in three of Florida Southern's five goals across two conference wins last week. In a 2-0 win over No. 14 Rollins College, Gums assisted the Moccasins' second goal, which came in the 37th minute after an hour and 45-minute lightning delay. The Greifswald, Germany native then scored the first and third goals, in the 24th and 74th minutes, during a 3-1 win at Saint Leo University on Saturday. The two wins give Florida Southern a 7-0 record, just one win shy of the best-undefeated start in the team's 62-year history.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Marco Sordi / Barry University / Sr. / Goalkeeper / Aosta, Italy
Sordi is named Defensive Player of the Week after shutting out No. 14 Rollins College on the road. The goalkeeper from Aosta, Italy recorded eight saves to earn the clean sheet and help secure a 1-0 Buccaneer victory. With the play of Sordi, Barry improves to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Christy Grimshaw / Barry University / Sr. / Midfielder / Stonehaven, Scotland
Grimshaw scored twice in six minutes to lead Barry to an overtime win against an undefeated Rollins College squad. Down 1-0 late in the second half, Grimshaw came through with an equalizer for the Buccaneers in the 86th minute off an assist by Molly Sharpe. The Scot followed with the game-winner in the 91st minute from an Ari Cerezuela assist. Following the overtime win, Barry remains undefeated at 7-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Natalie Robayna / Nova Southeastern University / Fr. / Goalkeeper / Pembroke Pines, Florida
Robayna, in her second career start, posted a shutout to lead the Sharks in double overtime over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The freshman collected nine saves in the win. The victory erased the Eagles' unbeaten mark in Sunshine State Conference play and previous three-game win streak. With the 1-0 victory, the Sharks improve to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Ryan Szklany / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Fr. / Lighthouse Point, Florida
Szklany following his second-ever collegiate meet repeats as Runner of the Week. The Lighthouse Point, Florida native, became the seventh-fastest Eagle in program history with a 24:51.6 time at the Mountain Dew Invitational. Szklany finished ninth overall, and was the top non-Division I runner, finishing more than 30 seconds ahead of two teammates and nearly a minute faster than the next closest Division II runner. Szklany once again led the Eagles to a team title as the Blue and Gold claimed the non-Division I portion of the meet, making ERAU 2-for-2 in 2018 race crowns.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Sarah Edens / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Jr. / Gainesville, Florida
Edens had the best race of her collegiate career and repeats as Runner of the Week. The Gainesville, Florida native finished 11th overall with a time of 17:30.7 at the Mountain Dew Invitational. It stands as the third-fastest time in Embry-Riddle women's cross country history. Edens' previous best time was 18:22.61, but then she smashed her personal-best as the Eagles took second in the non-Division I portion of the meet. The junior finished just behind Flagler College's Heloise Duffie De Tassigny (by three seconds), shaving 23 seconds off the pair's difference from last week's ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic. Edens ran 17 seconds faster than the next closest SSC competitor, Zoe Jarvis from the University of Tampa.
