Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Kristina Filimonova / Barry University / Jr. / Middle Blocker / Moscow, Russia
Filimonova led the way offensively for the Buccaneers with 31 kills in a pair of victories over Saint Leo University and Florida Southern College this weekend. Against the Lions on Friday, Filimonova went 16 for 34 with just two errors and a .412 hitting percentage. She also recorded her second consecutive double-double of the season (16k/11d). On Saturday, she helped take down the 2017 national runner-up with 15 kills and a season-high 45 attack opportunities. It was Barry's first victory over the Moccasins since October 23, 2015. With the play of Filimonova, Barry remains undefeated at 12-0 overall, 4-0 in SSC play.
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Olivia Roa / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Jr. / Libero / Port Orange, Florida
Roa collected 65 digs, for an average of 8.12 per set, including 39 in a five-set loss to No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Port Orange, Florida native, followed with 26 digs in a 3-0 sweep of Nova Southeastern University. Roa currently leads the conference and is ranked 11th in NCAA II with 6.34 digs/set. She also leads the conference with 15 service aces and .52 aces per set. The weekly award is the third of her career.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Molly Burkhardt / Palm Beach Atlantic University / Sr. / Setter / St. Augustine, Florida
Burkhardt averaged 11.1 assists per set for the Sailfish in road wins over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Florida Tech. The St. Augustine, Florida product added nine kills on the weekend and also had 4.00 digs per set (32 total) and 0.88 blocks per set (seven total). The senior had a big day in a five-set match against ERAU on Friday, totaling 56 assists, 25 digs, six blocks, and five kills. Burkhardt continues to lead the SSC in total assists as well as assists/set (11.33) as PBA improves to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in SSC play.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
James Meehan / Florida Southern College / So. / Forward / London, England
Meehan scored the game-winning goal for Florida Southern in a 2-1 overtime victory at No. 15 and 2017 national runner-up Lynn University in the Moccasins' only game of the week. The goal came 5:17 into overtime on the Moccasins' only shot in the extra period and sent them to a 5-0 record for the first time since 1997.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Benny Yusufoglu / Florida Southern College / So. / Goalkeeper / Dinslaken, Germany
Yusufoglu made a season-high five saves in Florida Southern's 2-1 overtime win at No. 15 and 2017 national runner-up Lynn University in the Moccasins' only game of the week. His final two saves came in the 74th and 89th minutes following Lynn free kicks in the attacking third, with Yusufoglu making difficult plays to prevent the Fighting Knights from scoring. He had two similar saves in the first half to keep Lynn off the scoreboard after Florida Southern had taken an early 1-0 lead. Yusufoglu and the Moccasins have allowed just one goal this season in starting 5-0 for the first time in 21 years. He extended his scoreless streak in goal to 435:12 before the Knights broke that, which stands as the third longest in team history.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Molly Sharpe / Barry University / Sr. / Forward / Bradford, England
Sharpe is named Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Buccaneers to a pair of big wins. Sharp scored once and assisted on another goal in a 2-1 non-conference victory over defending SSC champs Nova Southeastern University. In a 3-0 win over Eckerd College to open conference play, the Brit registered another goal and assist, bringing her weekly point total to six. Sharpe earns the third weekly award of her career after scoring the game-winner against the Sharks and assisting on the game-winner against the Tritons.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jade Adams / Barry University / Sr. / Defender / Palmetto, Florida
Adams led the Buccaneers defensively in wins over SSC opponents Nova Southeastern University and Eckerd College this past week. In a non-conference tilt against the Sharks, who came in as the top offensive club in the league, Adams led a Barry defense that kept NSU to one goal on five shots on goal. The Palmetto, Florida native then helped hold the Tritons to no shots on goal during a 3-0 Barry victory. Adams, who played all 180 minutes this week, has yet to come off in any game this season.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Ryan Szklany / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Fr. / Lighthouse Point, Florida
Szklany finished third overall at the ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic with a time of 26:26.41. The freshman trailed only 2020 Olympic hopeful Enoch Nadler and NCAA I All-MEAC runner Daniel Kiptoo from Bethune-Cookman University, the latter by just four seconds. The Lighthouse Point, Florida product led the Eagles to the team title with ease as the Blue and Gold opened the 2018 season with its 11th ASICS ERAU Classic title in 12 years.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Sarah Edens / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Jr. / Gainesville, Florida
Edens finished second overall at the ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic on Saturday, finishing with a time of 19:32.46. The junior completed her race more than 17 seconds in front of the closest SSC competitor. It also marked the fourth straight year Edens has finished in the top-four at the ASICS Classic.
