Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
Ashley Quero / Saint Leo University / So. / Outside Hitter / Hialeah, Florida
Quero led Saint Leo in kills across two victories this weekend as the Lions came from behind to defeat Eckerd College (3-2) on the road before taking down No. 21 Florida Southern College in five sets at home. The Hialeah, Florida product began the weekend with 16 kills on just 32 swings against the Tritons, while posting only two hitting errors for an impressive .438 attack percentage. She also posted a pair of solo blocks in the victory. Quero then led the team with 15 kills at home against the defending SSC Champions, while also posting five blocks including two solo stops. For the week, Quero had 31 kills, a .329 attack percentage, seven total blocks (including four solo). With the play of Quero, Saint Leo moves to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in SSC play.
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Sam Schlesman / Rollins College / Sr. / Middle Blocker / Largo, Florida
Schlesman led Rollins in blocks on the week as they took on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Florida Tech in SSC action. Against the Eagles, Schlesman earned two blocks while adding three kills in a 3-0 loss. The Largo, Florida native helped turn things around the following day as she earned a new career high in blocks against the Panthers. The middle blocker put up a match-high nine blocks while adding eight kills, two aces, and three digs in a 3-1 victory over Florida Tech. The Tars move to 3-6 overall, 1-1 in league play.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Cassandra Kamien / Saint Leo University / Fr. / Setter / Orlando, Florida
In two matches, Kamien racked up 101 assists and 30 digs for the Saint Leo Lions. The Orlando native opened the week with a career-high 50 assists at Eckerd College in a five-set victory. Kamien also achieved her first career double-double with 10 digs. The Freshman got the ball past the Tritons defense with six kills of her own. Kamien then surpassed her career-high with 51 assists in a 3-2 upset of No. 21 Florida Southern College. She also led the team in digs with a career-best 20 digs for her second-straight double-double of the week. Saint Leo improves to 5-5 overall and starts SSC play at 2-0.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Stefan Avram / Rollins College / Sr. / Forward / Orlando, Florida
Avram repeats as Offensive Player of the Week following his three goals on the week as the Tars improve to 4-0-0 in 2018. The Orlando native scored a vital first goal and assisted on the game clincher in a 3-1 victory at the University of West Florida. Avram then scored twice during a 4-0 road win against a Spring Hill College team that is receiving votes in the coaches poll. The weekly award is the third of his career.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Eidur Ivarsson / Rollins College / Fr. / Goalkeeper / Mosfellsbaer, Iceland
Ivarsson played all 180 minutes this week in goal on the road against the University of West Florida and Spring Hill
College. The Icelander made five saves against West Florida in a 3-1 win. He then held a clean sheet by making five saves against RV* Spring Hill as the Tars poured in four goals for the win. With the play of Ivarsson, the Tars improve to 4-0 on the season.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Savanna Sheahan / Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University / Fr. / Midfield / Wellington, Florida
Sheahan scored twice in Embry-Riddle’s 2-1 win over No. 14 Flagler College last week. Sheahan first struck in the 16th minute with a header off a corner kick from Rachel Owens. The Wellington, Florida native then scored the game-winner in the 78th minute off an assist by Annie Gelnaw. The win over Flagler was the first victory of the year for the Eagles.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Kelly Rowswell / Rollins College / Jr. / Goalkeeper / Windermere, Florida
Rowswell grabs the third weekly award of her career following her play against Tusculum University and No. 5 Columbus State University. The Windermere, Florida product produced a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Tusculum. In the Tars’ first win of the season, Rowswell tallied five saves. In a 1-1 draw against Columbus State, Rowswell made one save and cut out numerous crosses against a dominant Cougar team during her 110 minutes in goal. With the play of Rowswell, the Tars move to 1-0-3 on the season.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Joe Weber / University of Tampa / Jr. / Kendall Park, New Jersey
Weber took first place overall at Florida Tech’s Invitational in Melbourne this past weekend. The Kendall Park, New Jersey native, posted an 8k time of 26:35.1 to win by 0.9 seconds over teammate Trevor Kattenberg. Weber’s performance marks the first win of his collegiate career and a sealed a team victory for the Spartans.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Zoe Jarvis / University of Tampa / So. / Tampa, Florida
Jarvis finished first place overall at Florida Tech’s Invitational in Melbourne this past weekend. Jarvis, a native of Tampa, recorded a 5k time of 18:42.38 to win by nine seconds over teammate Shannon Sweeney. Jarvis and seven of her teammates took positions 1st through 8th in the race, earning a team victory for the Spartans. The weekly award is the second of her career.
