Record Breaking Pace Continues at Championship Midway Point

CLEARWATER, Fla. – A very fast Friday night saw five conference and seven meet records go down as teams continued competition at the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championship.
 
The Long Center is Clearwater has now produced a total of seven new conference records and 13 meet records at the midway point of the event.
 
Nova Southeastern continued to rack up points in both men’s and women’s divisions. The Sharks opened a 496.5 to 372.5 lead over second place Tampa. Florida Southern is third with 296 points. On the men’s side, the Sharks have 440 points with Florida Southern (385) second and Florida Tech (290) third.

Top Performances:
NSU’s women’s 200-yard freestyle relay set the tone with a conference record time of 1:31.35 in the days first event. The 400-yard IM saw new conference records in both the women’s (Courtney DeVeny – NSU, 4:16.40) and men’s (Matthew Holmes – FSC, 3:50.68) races.
 
Magnus Poulsen of Nova Southeastern established a new conference best in the 100-yard butterfly in 46.87. The Sharks women’s 400-yard medley relay closed the day with a SSC record time of 3:41.86.
