ERAU Men, UT women claim 2018 championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - (Results: Men | Women) - Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University men's and the University of Tampa's women's teams claim the 2018 SSC Cross Country Championships. The 2018 races were hosted by Rollins College on the campus of Embry-Riddle on November 3rd.

2018 Men's Cross Country Championship

Embry-Riddle finished with 26 team points to capture the programs first SSC championship. Shaun Bullock, Lelei Too, and Calahan Warren placed first through third for the Eagles. Florida Southern College finished in second place with 48 points, followed by Saint Leo University with 77 points.

Bullock becomes the first ERAU men's runner to win the SSC Cross Country Championship, finishing the 8,000-meter race with a time of 25:24.00, edging out teammates Lelei to Calahan Warren by 17 and 17.3 seconds, respectively. Finishing in fourth place was Florida Southern's Mason Jones in 25:58.0, followed by Tampa's Trevor Kattenberg in 26:02.96.

2018 Women's Cross Country Championship

The University of Tampa edged Embry-Riddle, 53 to 56, to capture the 2018 SSC women's cross country championship. After the Eagles runners finished first and second in the race, the Spartans secured the championship in come-from-behind fashion as the Top-5 Spartans finished, 5th, 6th, 13th,14th, and 15th. The title is the 14th for Tampa and the first since 2015.

After finishing as runner-up in 2017, Embry-Riddle's Sarah Edens completed her home course in 21:52.71 to claim victory in 2018. Edens bested teammate Kristen Metcalfe by 16.4 seconds for this year's top spot. Florida Southern's Hannah Flemming and Addison Cantor recorded times of 22:13.73 and 22:15.76 to place third and fourth. Tampa's Shannon Sweeney rounds out the Top-5 following her time of 22:20.34.

Rollins College will host the 2018 Sunshine State Conference Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships. The event will take place on Saturday, November 3rd on the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

NCAA Postseason: Florida Southern College will host the regional competition on Saturday, November 17th at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Florida. NCAA Finals will be held Saturday, December 1st at Cooper's Lake Campground in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.

Last Year

2017-18: Florida Southern College claimed their 17th SSC men's championship and first since 2013. The Moccasins went on to finish second of six SSC squads at the regional, fourth overall. Saint Leo University, the highest of all SSC finishers, advanced to nationals where they finished 30th.
