MELBOURNE, Fla. - Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball coaches select Florida Southern College to win a second consecutive regular-season championship. The Moccasins take the top spot following 100 total votes and ten first-place votes in the preseason poll. Along with the regular season title, FSC captured the league’s postseason championship in 2017-18.

Eckerd College and the University of Tampa finished second and third in the poll, with 88 and 73 points, respectively. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Nova Southeastern University are tied for fourth in the preseason ranking at 66 total votes, with Barry University right behind them in sixth place with 65 total votes.
During the 2017-18 season, Florida Southern (25-5, 17-3), Embry-Riddle (24-8, 15-5), and Eckerd (22-8, 15-5) gained entry into the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament. In the quarterfinal round, Embry-Riddle advanced by defeating Eckerd, and Florida Southern fell to Valdosta State University. During regional semifinal action, Embry-Riddle lost to Union University.
The 2017-18 season tips off on November 9th with eight of 11 league teams in action. Conference play begins with a full slate of games on November 28th.
