Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Bay Downing / University of Tampa / Sr. / Forward / Liverpool, England
Downing was a key player for Tampa as they opened SSC play with a 3-2, overtime victory at home against Eckerd College. Downing paced the Spartans by scoring the first goals in each half of the game, with both being assisted by Juancho Fernandez. Against No. 9 Palm Beach Atlantic University, Downing helped Tampa come back from 1-0 halftime deficit on the road to earn a draw and remain undefeated in SSC play. Tampa holds a 2-1-1 overall record and 1-0-1 mark in the SSC.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Julian Grundler / Rollins College / Sr. / Goalkeeper / Singen, Germany
Grundler held one clean sheet and gave up only one goal for Rollins in two conference games this week. The German made six saves in the Tars' 1-0 SSC win over Florida Southern College. Grundler surrendered just one goal and made four saves in 108 minutes against Barry University. He maintains a .909 save percentage and giving up an average of only .46 goals per game. Rollins sits on top of the SSC standings at 2-0. The Tars are 4-0-1 overall.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Maria Munoz / Florida Tech / So. / Midfield / Weston, Florida
Munoz earns Offensive Player of the Week following seven points and a hat trick. In a non-conference match against Lynn University, Munoz tallied a hat-trick in 74 minutes of play, following six shots (five on goal), carrying Florida Tech to a 4-1 win. In a match against Eckerd College, the Weston, Florida product recorded three shots and one assist as the Panthers posted a 2-0 win. Cumulatively over both matches, the midfielder tallied 153 minutes of play, three goals, one assist, nine shots, and a .556 shot on goal percentage. Florida Tech is now 4-1-1 overall, 1-0 in SSC play.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Kelly Rowswell / Rollins College / So. / Goalkeeper / Windermere, Florida
Rowswell posted two clean sheets in goal for the Tars in two conference games this week. The Windermere, Florida product had seven saves in a 1-0 victory over Florida Southern College. She then tallied five saves, including three in overtime, in a draw against Barry University. With the play of Rowswell, Rollins improves to 2-3-1 overall and begins conference play at 1-0-1.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Ronald Cheserek / Saint Leo University / So. / Kitale, Kenya
Cheserek repeats as Runner of the Week following a 12th place finish at the 29th annual University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational, held Saturday in Gainesville. The Kenyan was the highest placing non-Division I runner. He posted a time of 25:44.90 on the 8,000-meter course, running a 5:10.8-mile pace. Cheserek led Saint Leo to a 10th place team finish at the invitational out of 24 schools competing. This is the sixth Runner of the Week honor of Cheserek's career.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Zoe Jarvis / University of Tampa / Fr. / Tampa, Florida
Jarvis finished 10th overall among all runners at the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational. The Tampa native was the top SSC runner in the race and second among all Division II runners. Jarvis was the Spartan's top runner for the second straight race and led the team to top finish among Division II schools. Jarvis finished with 18:21.0 time in the 5,000-meter race.
Men's Golfer of the Week
John Coultas / Florida Southern College / Sr. / Valrico, Florida
Playing in Florida Southern's first tournament of the season, Coultas was the Florida Southern's top performer at the Griffin Invitational hosted by Saint Leo University. His seven-under par 209 tied him for fourth place in the field of 90 golfers. The Valrico, Florida native posted rounds of 68, 67, and 74 to lead the top-ranked and defending national champion Moccasins to a 4th-place finish as a team. The Golfer of the Week honor is the fifth of Coultas' career.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Amanda Jakobsson / Saint Leo University / Sr. / Gothenburg, Sweden
Jakobsson captured medalist honors at the 2017 University of North Carolina - Pembroke "Battle at Old South", held Saturday and Sunday at the Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, South Carolina. Jakobsson fired a 72 in Saturday's first round and followed up with a 68 in Sunday's final round. Her 68 is tied for the second lowest collegiate round in her career and tied for the sixth-lowest round in program history. The individual title at the "Battle at Old South" was the second time in three seasons that Jakobsson has won a tournament on that course, and the third tournament title of her collegiate career.
