Nova Southeastern Women Claim Fifth SSC Golf Title; BU’s Puts Wins Individual Title

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Nova Southeastern University claims their fifth overall SSC golf championship. Charlotte Puts of Barry University becomes the second Buccaneer to win the title. The 2017 event was hosted by Florida Southern College at The Country Club of Winter Haven.

Women’s Final Round Recap
Puts shot 73 in Tuesday's final round at the 6,074-yard, par-72 Country Club of Winter Haven. Puts edged two-time SSC Champion, Marie Coors of Saint Leo, by a stroke at even-par 216 in the three-day league championship tournament.
Michelle Ruiz (Nova Southeastern) finished in sole possession of third place at 5-over (221). Abbey Williams (Florida Southern) and Krissy Ortiz (Lynn) finished in a tie for fourth place. Williams and Ortiz posted scores of 6-over (22). The Top-5 competitors make up the All-Tournament team.
Nova Southeastern began the SSC championship on Sunday with an opening round score of 295, which slotted the team in third place. A second round low score of 291 gave NSU the lift needed to climb two spots in the team standings to grab the tournament lead heading into the final round.
With final round of 302, the Sharks combined for a three-day score of 888 (+24) to claim the conference championship by a five-stroke margin. Florida Tech and Saint Leo tied for second place with final scores of 893 (+29), one stroke ahead of fourth place Barry.
The Sharks' three round score of 888 is a new Sunshine State Conference record in top scores in relation to par at +24. This breaks the previous conference record of +30, also held by NSU since 2010, when the tournament was hosted at Grande Oaks Golf Club.
Women’s Tournament Notes
SSC ladies averaged 79.27 per round for the tournament, with Sunday’s round being the lowest at 78.86. The 2015 SSC championship continues to be the lowest average score for a three-day tournament (78.81). The 2015 championship was held at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Florida.
With a second place finish, Marie Coors becomes the 11th female golfer to post three Top-5 finishes at the SSC Championship.
Tilda Larsson, Amanda Jakobsson (Saint Leo), and Aldana Foigel (Nova Southeastern) join the list of 29 other women who have finished Top-10 two or more times.
Charlotte Puts’ even par (216) ties for the second lowest three-round tournament score (Emily Rymer, FSC - 2015). Nicole Ferre’s 1-under at RedTail in 2015 stands as the top round in SSC history. Tournament scores for the other Top-5 finishers all stand as Top-20 in tournament history.
The lowest single round score for the tournament was 2-under (70) which was achieved eight times by eight different golfers. The mark ranks tied for 8th lowest in SSC tournament history.
With their performances at Winter Haven, Nova Southeastern, Saint Leo, Florida Tech, and Barry recorded the four lowest 3-round team scores in SSC championship history.
Nine of the Top-20 team round scores in SSC championship history were shot this year at Winter Haven. Florida Tech’s 290 on Day 2 ranks the highest at third.
