Men’s Tournament Notes
Monday’s average score of 74.88 at Duran was nearly a stroke and a half worse than Sunday’s average score. The two round average of 74.17 (+2.17) is the lowest to par since the field averaged 72.67 (+1.67) over the last two rounds at Grande Oakes in 2010.
Heavier winds made scoring less favorable on Monday. Golfers found the par-4 No. 18 and par-4 No. 2 the most challenging. Both holes played a half stroke above par and yielded 20+ scores over par. Over the past two days, the Par-5’s have been crucial to good scoring. The four holes have given up a combined nine eagles and 125 birdies.
On Day 1, Nova Southeastern’s Juan Jose Guerra shot a 5-under (67), which is best SSC tournament round ever at Duran and tied for the 13th best overall. Previously, Greg O’Mahoney (Nova Southeastern) held the top score at Duran with 4-under (68) in 2008. Seven men shot in the 60’s on Day 1, while only two (Brey and Torres) reached the mark on Day 2.
Top-5 Watch: These golfers look to join an elite group of 30 golfers who have finished Top-5 at the SSC championship multiple times.
