Women’s Tournament Notes
Florida Tech's 2-over (290) is the third best single round score for a team in SSC tournament history. It is the second best first round score in tournament history behind Barry's even par (288) in 2008. Barry’s six-over (294) ranks tied for seventh in tournament history.
Puts and Sheih’s 2-under (70) ties them for the eighth best single round score in SSC tournament history. It is the best first round score since Marie Coors (Saint Leo) opened the 2014 championship with a 6-Under (66) at Lake Jovita in 2014. The score stands as the best single round score in SSC history.
Coors, who has a chance to become the second female golfer to win the SSC tournament three times, shot a first round 2-over (74). Currently, she is tied for 11th place.
Golfers found holes 16 (Par 4) and 6 (Par 3) the most challenging during Round 1, as both played almost a shot over par. Number 11 was the only hole that played under par for the day. The 470-yard Par 5 saw two of the day’s three eagles and more birdies than any other two holes combined.
With a Top-5 finish, Coors can become one of 11 golfers to have finished Top-5 in three or more SSC Championships. Toth and Freedman are accompanied by a significant group of athletes looking to join 24 golfers before them who have finished Top-5 at the SSC championship two or more times. Other golfers in the hunt this year are: Madison Lellyo (RC), Aldana Foigel (NSU), Vilde Eriksen (SLU), Amanda Jakobsson (SLU), and Martina Bertuccioli (BU). A total of thirteen athletes can finish Top-10 for a second time in their career.
