Baseball Player of the Week
Grant Ashline / Rollins College / Jr. / 2nd Base / Naples, Florida
Ashline brings home Player of the Week honors after leading Rollins to a series victory over No. 18 Nova Southeastern. In game one of the series, Ashline went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and a RBI. The Naples, Florida native led off the ninth inning with a triple and went on to score the winning run. In a game two loss, Ashline walked twice and scored for the Tars. Ashline went 2-for-3 in the final game of the series, providing the Tars with two runs and a walk as they defeated the Sharks. For the week, Ashline recorded a .444 BA / .615 OBP / .889 Slugging slash line and tallied five runs, four walks, two triples, and two singles. Rollins moves to 22-15 overall, 7-8 in SSC play.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Jonathan Hernandez / Barry University / Jr. / Miami, Florida
Hernandez is named Pitcher of the Week after earning a win in Barry’s 4-0 victory over conference-foe Saint Leo. The Miami native allowed four hits and two walks in his 7.0 innings of work. Hernandez held the 27 batters he faced to a .160 batting average and struck out four during the win. Barry improves to 19-22 overall and are 6-9 in SSC play.
Softball Player of the Week
Elly Pillers / University of Tampa / Jr. / Outfield / Tampa, Florida
Pillers earns Player of the Week after helping Tampa sweep No. 4 Saint Leo. In the series, Pillers went 3-for-9 at the plate with five drawn walks and no strikeouts. She was responsible for Tampa’s two runs as she hit a pair of solo home runs in the 2-1 game one victory. The Tampa product scored five runs to help her team hand SLU's Stephanie Adkins back-to-back losses for the first time all year and deliver the only conference sweep of the Lions this year. For the week, Pillers recorded a .333 BA / .571 OBP / 1.000 Slugging slash line and tallied five walks, three runs, two home runs, two RBI, and a single. Tampa moves to 27-8 overall and into first place in SSC play at 14-4.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Makaleigh Dooley / University of Tampa / So. / Tampa, Florida
Dooley receives her fourth Pitcher of the Week honor after playing a large part in Tampa’s sweep of No. 4 Saint Leo. The sophomore right-hander went 2-0 in three appearances against the Lions. Dooley tossed a nine inning complete game during game one, allowing 11 hits, two walks, and one run. The Tampa native recorded six strikeouts as UT took the game 2-1. Dooley pitched three innings in relief during game two, grabbing the win in the 5-3 Spartan victory. Tampa moves to 27-8 overall and into first place in SSC play at 14-4.
Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Conor Whipple / University of Tampa / Sr. / Attack / Tampa, Florida
Whipple is awarded his fourth Offensive Player of the Week award, second consecutive, after helping the Spartans to their fourth straight conference regular season championship. The Tampa native recorded eight total points in a victory against Florida Tech. Whipple recorded five assists and tallied three goals in the 15-10 victory. The Spartans are now 11-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The honor is Whipple's 12th of his career, the most in SSC lacrosse history.
Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Matt Lalli / Florida Southern College / Sr. / Goalkeeper / New Milford, Connecticut
Lalli earns his third Defensive Player of the Week award after a solid effort in goal for Florida Southern against RV Rollins. Lalli stopped 17 shots and allowed eight goals on 42 shots faced to record a 68% save percentage in a 9-8 victory against Rollins. The New Milford, Connecticut native had two key saves while the Moccasins faced man-down situations. He also collected two ground balls in the victory. Florida Southern is now 7-6 overall and 2-2 in SSC play. The honor is Lalli’s eighth of his career, the second most in SSC lacrosse history.
Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week
Dryden Brous / Lynn University / Fr. / Faceoff / Ocean City, Maryland
Brous earns his third Specialist Player of the Week honor, second consecutive, after going 19-for-24 (79.2 percent) in the faceoff X during a 13-8 victory over No. 16 Saint Leo. The Ocean City, Maryland native also picked up nine ground balls and tallied an assist in the victory. On the season he has a 67.4 winning percentage in the faceoff X. The Fighting Knights are now 5-6 over and 1-3 in conference play.
