Baseball Player of the Week
Nick Capra / Florida Tech / Sr. / Infield / Melbourne, Florida
Capra earns Player of the Week honors following his performance in a three-game series against No. 10 Lynn this past week. The Melbourne, Florida native tallied a .750 BA / .786 OB% / 1.250 Slugging slash line against the Fighting Knights while driving in four RBI and recording three extra base hits. Capra had three hits in each of the first two games of the series and drew three walks in the finale. For the week, the senior infielder went 6-for-11 at the plate (.545) with five walks, and four RBI as the Panthers improve to 17-11 overall and 3-3 in SSC Play.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Tyler Deel / Florida Tech / Sr. / Jacksonville, Florida
Deel gets the Pitcher of the Week nod after earning a win over No. 10 Lynn. The Jacksonville, Florida native tossed seven complete innings, striking out four and walking only one. The senior managed to hold the Fighting Knights lineup to two runs (one earned) on four hits for a 1.29 ERA. Deel also held Lynn’s batting average to .167% during his seven innings pitched against 27 batters faced. Florida tech is now 17-11 overall and 3-3 in league play.
Softball Player of the Week
Kacie Kelly / Saint Leo University / Fr. / Infield / Jacksonville, Florida
Kelly takes Player of the Week following a 11-for-13 effort in a conference series against Florida Southern. The freshman recorded a team-best .846 batting average over the three-game SSC series sweep of the Moccasins. The Jacksonville, Florida native scored four times and tallied six RBI as well as three extra base hits Offensively, Kelly finished the week with a 1.154 slugging percentage, .846 on-base percentage, 15 total bases, and a stolen base. The infielder recorded a 1.000-fielding percentage with 10 putouts and four assists. Saint Leo improves to 28-7 overall and 9-3 in SSC play.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Rachel Pence / Florida Tech / Sr. / Jacksonville, Florida
Pence is awarded Pitcher of the Week for the second this year following her performance in Florida Tech’s sweep of Rollins this past week. Pence earned the win for FIT in Game 1 and Game 3 of the series, pitching 12 innings and allowing three runs on 12 hits with nine strikeouts. In Game 2, Pence earned the save after pitching two innings allowing one hit followed by one strikeout. Over the three game span, she held a 1.88 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .220 average. The weekly honor is Pence’s 10th of her career, which is tied for third most in any sport since 2006-07. The sweep pushes the Panthers to 22-16 overall and helps the Panthers jump Rollins in the SSC standings.
Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Andrew Kew / University of Tampa / So. / Attack / Oakville, Ontario
Kew is named Offensive Player of the Week for the second time following 16 points across two Tampa wins this week. In the win over #19 Colorado Mesa, Kew led the team in goals with five, also tacking on an assist and a ground ball. The Oakville, Ontario also scored seven times while adding two assists and a ground ball against conference foe Rollins. Kew’s seven goals ties the school record for most goals in one game. The sophomore is currently the nation’s leading goal scorer. Following the wins, Tampa is now 8-3 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Daniel Flock / Florida Tech / So. / Goalkeeper / Ellicott City, Maryland
Flock takes Defensive Player of the Week honors a second time this year after a key performance in Florida Tech's SSC opening victory over No. 17 Lynn on Saturday. The sophomore goaltender finished with 16 saves, 13 in the second half, while facing 49 total shots to help the Panthers knock off the Fighting Knights 11-10 on the road. The Ellicott City, Maryland product also collected four ground balls in the contest as FIT won its fourth game in a row. With the victory, Flock improved his season record to 5-4.
Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week
Sam Watts / University of Tampa / Jr. / Faceoff / Buffalo, New York
Watts is named Specialist of the Week for a third time this season after going 43-of-53 (.811) in the faceoff circle and picking up 28 ground balls in two victories. During a 15-7 victory over No. 19 Colorado Mesa, Watts went 17-25 on faceoffs while also adding eight ground ball pickups, netting a goal, and adding an assist. The Buffalo, New York native then went 26-28 in faceoffs against RV Rollins and also picked up 20 ground balls in the 18-11 victory. The Spartans are 8-3 overall and 1-0 in SSC play.
