ALL-SSC Women's Basketball Selections for 2016-17

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Eckerd College, Sunshine State Conference regular season champion, boasts seven All-SSC awards including Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Coach of the Year. In all, 15 women’s basketball student-athletes earn All-SSC recognition following the 2016-17 season.
 
Victoria Vine of Eckerd is named SSC Player of the Year. Vine helped lead the Tritons to a 23-4 overall record in 2016-17. Vine averaged a team-leading 13.3 points per game while playing 27.3 minutes a game. Vine becomes the second Triton named Player of the Year (Felecia Felton, 2001-021).

SSC women’s basketball coaches recognize Eckerd’s Paul Honsinger as Coach of the Year for the second time in his career2. Honsinger guided the Tritons to the program’s first SSC regular season championship following a 16-2 record in league play.
 
Ada Yalcin earns Eckerd’s second Newcomer of the Year3 award. Yalcin averaged 6.7 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.1 steals a game for the Tritons. Carly McLendon of Rollins College is named Defensive Player of the Year after finishing first in the SSC in Blocks (72) and Blocks per Game (2.8)4. McLendon is the third Tar to receive the award5. Freshman of the Year Maria Bardeeva rounds out the individual awards for 2016-17. Bardeeva is Nova Southeastern University’s second Freshman of the Year winner6.
 
Vine, Elena de Alfredo (University of Tampa), Kacie Juday (Eckerd), Chelsy Springs (Saint Leo University), and Camille Giardina (Florida Southern College) make up the All-SSC first team. Springs, the 2015-16 Newcomer of the Year, moves to the First Team after Second Team accolades last season. Along with Springs, Giardina and de Alfredo earn First Team nods after Newcomer Team honors last season.
