BOCA RATON, Fla.- (Results: Men | Women) - Florida Southern College men's and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University women's claim the 2017 SSC Cross Country Championships. The 2017 races were hosted by Nova Southeastern University at South County Regional Park on October 21st.

2017 Men's Cross Country Championship
Florida Southern finished with 42 team points to capture the programs 17th SSC championship, first since 2013. Led by the individual runner-up, Bobby Ormsby, the top five Moccasins finished No. 2, No. 5, No. 6, No. 9, and No. 20. FSC dethrones a Saint Leo University program that had won three consecutive titles.

Ronald Cheserek of Saint Leo repeats as SSC champion, finishing the 8,000-meter race with a time of 25:33.41, edging out Ormsby of Florida Southern (25:39.46). Cheserek is the sixth SSC men's runner to repeat as champion and the first since current FSC coach Ben Martucci (2009, 2010). Ormsby also finished second in 2016. Anthony Deleva of Saint Leo rounded out the Top-3 finishers with a time of 25:43.42. Deleva moves up one spot from a fourth-place finish last year.

2017 Women's Cross Country Championship
The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University women's cross country program is one-for-one in SSC championships, as the Eagles claim the 2017 title. Along with the women's team, Its the first SSC championship for the university. Eagle runners finished No. 2, No. 4, No. 10, No. 14, and No. 14 to score 43 points. The Lion's first championship came in 2014 when both SLU squads won took home trophies. Last year's champion, Saint Leo University, came in second place with a score of 47.

Colett Rampf of Saint Leo wins the SSC championship for the fourth consecutive year, becoming the only runner in SSC achieve four conference titles. Rampf finished with a time of 21:20.79. Embry-Riddle's Sarah Edens came in second with a time of 22:18.40. Alyssa Bayliff of Saint Leo finished third with a time of 22:31.25

2017 Men's & Women's Cross Country Championship
Nova Southeastern University will host the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships. The event will take place on Saturday, October 21st at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton, Florida.
Men's Start: 7:45 AM
Women's Start: 8:45 AM
Note: Admission and parking are free. Parking will be at the designated lot on the premises of South County Regional Park.
NCAA Postseason: Florida Southern College will host the regional competition on Saturday, November 4th at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Florida. NCAA Finals will be held Saturday, November 18th at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Indiana. Southern Indiana University and the Evansville Sports Commission are co-hosts for the championship.
Last Year
2016-17: Saint Leo University claimed their third consecutive SSC men's championship in 2016. The Lions went on to finish second at the regional, highest of all SSC finishers. SLU, along with the Moccasins of Florida Southern College, represented the conference at the national championship meet. Just like the men, Saint Leo women won the SSC championship and took second in the regional meet. The Lions represented the conference at the national championship meet.
