Nova Southeastern University Wins 2015-16 SSC Women’s Mayors’ Cup
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Nova Southeastern University captures the 2015-16 women’s division of the Sunshine State Conference Mayors’ Cup. The Sharks also took home the all-sports trophy following 2007-08 academic year.
First presented following the 1986-87 academic year, the award was traditionally sponsored by the Mayors of the nine communities in which SSC member institutions are located.

In the women’s division, points are awarded based on final regular-season conference standings in basketball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball*. Points are awarded based on a team's finish at their respective conference championship event for cross country, golf, rowing, and swimming.
Nova Southeastern sat in second place with 33 points following the Fall/Winter standings. NSU garnered nine points from their basketball regular season championship, eight points from soccer, and six from swimming. The Sharks also earned Fall/Winter points from a third place tie in volleyball (Florida Southern) and fourth place finish at the cross county championship.
A strong Spring guided the NSU to 53.5 total points and their second all-sports trophy. Nova Southeastern posted second place finishes at the golf and rowing conference championships. They earned third place points from tennis and ninth place points from softball.
Saint Leo University finished in second with a total of 48 points. The Lions jumped from fourth place to second following Spring championships in tennis and softball. During the Fall/Winter, SLU earned the majority of their points with second place finishes in cross-country and volleyball.
Tampa takes third place with 45 points over the three seasons. Tampa generated a large portion of their points with two conference championships (cross-country and volleyball) and a third place finish (soccer) in the Fall.
Nova Southeastern University Sharks
This spring, Nova Southeastern’s women’s golf finished first in the south regional tournament and earned a spot in the national tournament. The Shark’s women’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA South Region tournament where they were defeated in the first round.
In the fall, the Shark’s women’s soccer team advanced to the NCAA South Regional where they fell to West Florida in the first round. NSU cross-country finished ninth of 15 teams at the NCAA South Regional meet.
During the winter season, Nova Southeastern’s women’s basketball team advanced to the NCAA South Regional semifinal round before concluding their season. The Women’s Swimming team finished 11th at the NCAA Championship meet.
