KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. - Lynn University claims their second consecutive, fourth overall SSC golf championship. The Fighting Knights’ Manuel Torres shot 3-over for the tournament to bring home the individual championship. The 2016 event was hosted by Barry University at Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne.

Men’s Final Round Recap
Torres improved each day on the third most difficult municipal course in America (77, 72, 70) to end with a 219. His third-round 70 is tied for the second best individual round shot at the tournament. Torres becomes the second Lynn golfer to win the individual title (Keir McNicoll, 2004, Doral).
Niclas Weiland (Barry), Ryan Gendron (Saint Leo), and Martin Cancino (Lynn) tied for second at 221. Weiland carded a 2-under 70 to jump up seven positions on day three. Rounding out the Top-5 is Florida Tech’s Shanren Brienen with a 222. The Top-5 competitors make up the All-Tournament team.
Lynn never relinquished first place throughout the tournament. The Fighting Knights shot sub-300 each day to finish 23-over (887) for the tournament. Saint Leo ends up in second after shooting 899. Florida Southern tallied a 908 (+44) over the three day event for third place.
Men’s Tournament Notes
Crandon Golf produced average scores above 79 on all three days. The last time average scores were that high over multiple rounds was in 1996 at Sugar Mill in New Smyrna Beach. The 1996 tournament was a two-round event.
Manuel Torres (LU) becomes only the seventh golfer to win the championship with a score above par.
Joey Savoie (SLU) is the 18th golfer to finish Top-10 at the event three or more times. John VanDerLaan (FSC), John Coultas (FSC), and Ryan Gendron (SLU) earn their second Top-10 finish.
