Twenty-six student-athletes were named to the 2007 All-Sunshine State Conference Women’s Soccer Team, announced Thursday by Commissioner Michael J. Marcil.  Rollins’ Lindsay Giblin was named Player and Offensive Player of the Year.  Florida Southern’s Amy Clampitt-Holsenbeck and Ben Strawbridge were selected Defensive Player and Coach of the Year, respectively.  Nova Southeastern’s Lauren Prow was chosen Freshman of the Year.

Voting for the all-conference team was conducted among the league’s head women’s soccer coaches and sports information directors.

SSC regular-season champion Tampa and runner-up Saint Leo each placed six honorees on the All-SSC squad, with four of Tampa’s selections receiving First Team distinction.  Rollins and Nova Southeastern each had four student-athletes on the team, while Florida Southern had three representatives, all of whom made First Team.  Lynn placed two players on the team, and Florida Tech had one student-athlete who received honorable mention.

Joining Giblin and Clampitt-Holsenbeck on the All-SSC First Team were:  forwards Linda Hoglund (Florida Southern) and Shelby Kuni (Tampa); midfielders Courtney Evans (Tampa), Erin Hopkins (Florida Southern), and Sara Macko (Saint Leo); defenders Nicole Murphy (Tampa) and Jennifer Turner (Nova Southeastern); goalkeeper Shannon Aitken (Tampa); and at-large selection Molly Anderson (Lynn).

Accompanying Prow on the All-SSC Second Team were:  forwards Hannah Beard (Saint Leo) and Shurell Burton (Nova Southeastern); midfielders Leah Hirsch (Rollins), Stephanie Quinones (Nova Southeastern), and Evelina Viiri (Saint Leo); defenders Ginger Davenport (Saint Leo), Maria Mohammed (Tampa), and Courtney O’Connell (Lynn); goalkeeper Lauren Hudson (Saint Leo); and at-large selection Ashley Flateland (Tampa).

Receiving honorable mention were:  Rachel Devlin (Florida Tech), Stina Lykke Petersen (Rollins), Jennifer O’Connor (Saint Leo), and Meagan Thomas (Rollins).

Having been named Player of the Year in 2006, Giblin again wins the award and adds Offensive Player of the Year honors to her resume.  A junior, she tallied 11 goals, six assists, and 28 points for Rollins.  Her 11 goals tie for most in the league, while her six assists tie for tenth.  A native of Naples, Fla., Giblin posted four multi-goal performances this season.

Clampitt-Holsenbeck wins Defensive Player of the Year recognition after anchoring a Florida Southern defense that ranked third in the SSC with seven shutouts.  In addition to being one of the conference’s toughest defenders, the Winter Springs, Fla., native also made a big impact on the offensive end of the field, registering nine goals and two assists.  Her nine goals tie for third in the league, and she leads the SSC with five game-winning goals.

Strawbridge wins Coach of the Year honors in just his second season at Florida Southern.  Strawbridge’s Moccasins made a tremendous turnaround in 2007, posting a school-record 12 wins, six more than their 2006 total.  Carrying a 12-7-1 overall record, the Mocs’ 4-3-1 SSC mark placed them fifth in the SSC standings, tying for the best conference finish in program history.  FSC is ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Division II South Region Rankings.

Prow made a tremendous impact in her debut season at Nova Southeastern.  A native of Valparaiso, Ind., she tallied nine goals (3rd SSC), seven assists (8th SSC), and 25 points (5th SSC) for the Sharks.
