Lynn’s Jessica Bradley Tabbed SSC Female Athlete of the Year
WINTER PARK, Fla. (Women’s Golf) – The NCAA Division II top-ranked women’s golfer Jessica Bradley led Lynn to its second-straight national championship in the spring. On Thursday, Bradley was named the 2013-14 Sunshine State Conference Female Athlete of the Year.
Bradley was chosen for the award in a vote conducted among the conference’s athletic directors, senior woman administrators, athletic communication directors and faculty athletic representatives from each of the nine member institutions.
A junior from Bishops Nympton, England, Bradley led the No. 1 Lynn Fighting Knights to a second-straight NCAA Division II Championships in 2014. They defeated national runner-up and third-ranked Barry by 29 strokes. The Fighting Knights also won their second-straight NCAA II South/Southeast Super Regional.
Bradley finished as the individual national runner-up to teammate Louise Manalo in Conover, N.C. The junior shot a four-round score of 288 (+4) to finish one stroke behind the medalist. At regionals, Bradley finished in seventh with a three-round score of 222 (+6) to finish four strokes behind the regional medalist.
The junior also led Lynn to its first-ever SSC Women’s Golf Championship. Bradley finished tied for fourth with a score of 222 (+6). She finished four strokes behind the individual champion. Bradley was named to the SSC All-Championship Team.
Bradley recorded a 73.27 stroke average, which set a school record and led the conference. She finished in the top-10 of all 13 tournaments she competed in to set another school record. Bradley won three of those tournaments for a third program record.
Lynn finished the season undefeated against all NCAA Division II opponents and won a Division II record 11 tournaments. The Fighting Knights tied a SSC record with seven consecutive tournament victories during 2014.
In recognition of her season, Bradley was named the SSC Women’s Golfer of the Year and to the All-SSC First Team. She was also named the WGCA National Player of the Year and to the WGCA All-America First Team. Bradley is the first women’s golfer in school history to be named national player of the year.
In addition to her success on the links, Bradley has also been recognized for her work in the classroom. The junior is set to be named to the SSC Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll for a third time. She was named Capital One/CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America At-Large First Team after earning a spot on the Academic All-District 5 At-Large First Team in 2014.
With her selection as the 2013-14 SSC Female Athlete of the Year, Bradley is the third Lynn female athlete to earn the conference award. She is the first since 2004-05 when Aimee Murch (Softball) won the award.
