FSC, NSU Earn SSC Championships as a Plethora of Swim Records Fall
Two National, 20 Conference, 30 Meet, and 84 School Records Fall
ORLANDO – The 2015 Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championships have come to a close with Nova Southeastern and Florida Southern earning team championships. Thirty meet records and 20 overall records fell over the four-day event.
Team Champions
Florida Southern College walked out of the YMCA Aquatic Center a SSC Champion in men’s swimming for the third consecutive year. FSC totaled 800 points during the four days of action, edging out Nova Southeastern University who finished in second with 791 points. The University of Tampa finished in third place with 740 points.
Nova Southeastern, who tallied 853.5 points overall, took the champions plunge in to the competition pool. This year’s title is the second for the Sharks. The first came in 2012. Florida Southern finished in second place by recording 760.5 points. Last year’s champion, Tampa, finished in third place with 712 points.

Swimmers of the Meet
Daniel Bis (Fr., Kalisz, Poland) of Saint Leo University was named Male Swimmer of the Meet. Bis broke meet records in the 500, 1000, and 1650 Free. His times in the 500 and 1000 Free were also overall SSC records. Bis is the third consecutive Saint Leo men’s swimmer to be named Swimmer of the Meet.
Rebecca Matthews (Gr., Montpellier, France) of Lynn University earned Female Swimmer of the Meet honors. Matthews set conference and meet records in the 100 & 200 Breaststroke as well as the 200 Individual Medley. Matthews, along with teammates, was a bronze medalist in the 200 Medley Relay
Records
Women’s swimmers set 16 meet records and 11 overall conference records during the event. NSU swimmers bested 12 meet records and eight conference records, led by Bryndis Hansen and Courtney DeVeny. Matthews (Lynn) and Hansen (Nova Southeastern) each set three overall conference records in individual events.
Men’s swimmers from Nova Southeastern, Saint Leo, Florida Southern, and Tampa took part in topping 14 meet records and nine overall conference records. Daniel Bis (Saint Leo) and Anton Lobanov (Nova Southeastern) both set two overall conference records in individual events.

Anton Lobanov set two NCAA D-II records at the 2015 championship. Lobanov first posted a 52.00 in the 100 Breaststroke, breaking Aleksander Hetland’s (Tampa) 2009 record of 52.43. Lobanov swam a 1:53.29 in the 200 Breaststroke the following day. His 200 time dethrones Nicholas Korth’s (UC San Diego) 1:54.45 set in March of 2014.
Eighty-four school records were broken across the 13 SSC swim programs at the 2015 championship. Nova Southeastern led the way with 26 school records followed by Florida Tech’s 22.
