WINTER PARK, Fla. (Men’s Golf) – Coming off his second-straight NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Individual National Championship, Florida Southern’s Tim Crouch was named the 2013-14 Sunshine State Conference Male Athlete of the Year, it was announced Thursday. It is Crouch’s second consecutive conference athlete of the year award.

Crouch was chosen for the award in a vote conducted among the conference’s athletic directors, senior woman administrators, athletic communication directors and faculty athletic representatives from each of the nine member institutions.

A senior from Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Crouch won the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf individual title for a second consecutive season. He shot an even-par 213 for 54 holes at the Meadows in Allendale, Mich., to win by one stroke over Barry’s Adam Svensson. With his second championship, Crouch is the eighth Moccasin to win an individual national title and the first-ever to win back-to-back. In NCAA Division II history, he is just the third men’s golfer to win back-to-back individual championships.

Crouch advanced to the NCAA Championship in Allendale, Mich., after winning the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional in Savannah, Ga. He earned medalist at the regional with a six-under-par 210 over 54 holes. Crouch was under-par in all three rounds, including scores of 69 (-3), 70 (-2) and 71 (-1), respectively.

On the season, Crouch led Florida Southern with a 71.97 scoring average in 32 rounds and 11 tournaments. He had four top-5 finishes, including winning medalist honors at his final two collegiate events in post-season action.

Crouch had 18 rounds of par or better golf, including a season-low round of 66 at the second round of the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational hosted by Columbus State.

In recognition of his season, Crouch was named to the All-SSC Men’s Golf First Team for a second-straight season. He was named  2014 PING//GCAA Division II First Team All-America. Crouch also earned Florida Southern’s 2014 Hal Smeltzly Award for the second-straight year—award given to the Moccasins’ Male Athlete of the Year.

In addition to his success on the course, Crouch has also been recognized for his efforts in the classroom. The senior is set to be named to the SSC Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll for a fourth time. He was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America At-Large Third Team after earning a spot on the Academic All-District 5 At-Large First Team in 2014.

With his selection as the 2013-14 SSC Male Athlete of the Year, Crouch becomes the fifth-straight Florida Southern student-athlete to win the award and the 15th overall. He is also the second Moccasin to win the award in back-to-back years. Florida Southern swimmer Jeb Halface captured the award in 2010-11 and 2011-12.
