Florida Southern softball pitching ace Megan Brown and Lynn baseball standout Nicolas Boisvert have been named the Sunshine State Conference Female and Male Athlete of the Year, respectively, it was announced by Commissioner Michael J. Marcil.

Voting for both Athlete of the Year awards was conducted among the sports information directors at the nine member institutions.

Megan BrownBrown closed the chapter on a tremendous four-year career at Florida Southern. A native of Carrollton, Ga., she led the Moccasins to a 51-15 record, including SSC and South Region championships and a fourth-place finish in the NCAA Division II Softball Championship. The senior notched a 34-10 record in her final campaign and led the conference with a 0.79 ERA. She pitched 37 complete games, including 15 shutouts. Brown struck out 291 batters over 292.1 innings and held opponents to a meager .154 batting average. Six of her 10 losses were by 1-0 scores, and three of those came in 10-inning contests. Her efforts earned her SSC Pitcher of the Year honors for the third time in her career, making her the only student-athlete to earn the distinction three times.

Brown’s impressive 2007 resume also included NFCA First Team All-America honors. A three-time All-American, she earned all-region and All-SSC honors each of her four years of competition. She was selected the Most Valuable Player of this year’s South Region Championship.

In addition to her accomplishments for the season, Brown also etched her name throughout the NCAA and SSC career records. She ranks third in NCAA Division II history with 124 career wins, sixth in shutouts (58), and seventh in strikeouts (997). She is among the top three in every SSC career pitching category.

Brown was also selected the 2006-07 SSC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She is just the second student-athlete to win both awards, as Rollins women’s golfer Charlotte Campbell claimed both honors in 2003-04.

Having concluded her career at FSC, Brown will turn her sights to the National Pro Fastpitch league, where she will pitch for the Michigan Ice.

Nicolas BoisvertBoisvert also had a stellar senior season for the Fighting Knights, ranking among the conference’s best in nearly every offensive statistical category. He led the SSC with a .436 batting average, 15 home runs, a .765 slugging percentage, and a .536 on-base percentage.
Additionally, Boisvert ranked second in hits (98) and doubles (23), third in runs (69), fourth in walks (43), and fifth in stolen bases (22).

A native of Laval, Quebec, Boisvert’s efforts earned him SSC Player of the Year honors. He also tallied an impressive haul of national accolades, earning ABCA First Team All-America and South Region Player of the Year distinction, as well as Daktronics First Team All-America and All-South Region recognition. Boisvert was the first player in Lynn baseball history to be named First Team All-America.

Boisvert concluded his career in Boca Raton with a number of school career records to his credit, including batting average (.418), slugging percentage (.702), on-base percentage (.514), and triples (10). His .418 career batting average also places him fifth among the
SSC’s career record holders in that category.

Reaching base safely in 54 of 56 games, Boisvert led Lynn to a 32-24 record and a fourth-place finish in the league standings. He established new school single-season records for hits, doubles, total bases, runs, and on-base percentage.

Boisvert is the second Lynn student-athlete to earn Male Athlete of the Year honors, joining former men’s soccer player Ross Lumsden, who won the award in 2003-04.
