2010 All-SSC Men's Golf Team Announced

Twelve student-athletes have earned recognition as members of the 2010 All-Sunshine State Conference Men’s Golf Team.  Florida Southern’s Matt Stauch was named Golfer of the Year, while FSC’s Doug Gordin was selected Coach of the Year.  Saint Leo’s Nick Brothers was chosen Freshman of the Year.

Voting for the all-conference men’s golf team was conducted among the league’s head golf coaches and sports information directors.

Landing a spot on the All-SSC First Team with Stauch were:  Victor Billskoog (Barry), Chris Carlin (Barry), Jude Eustaquio (Florida Southern), Patricio Salem (Lynn), and Carlos Velez (Barry).

Receiving All-SSC Second Team honors were:  JP Albuquerque (Saint Leo), Steven Brame (Lynn), Cole Cisbani (Saint Leo), J.D. Guiney (Rollins), Shelton Smith (Florida Southern), and Daniel Stapff (Barry).

A senior from Dublin, Ohio, Stauch notched six top-10 finishes in nine tournaments.  He came away with top-five finishes in five of those outings, including three wins.  Stauch won medalist honors at the Queens Invitational and the USF Invitational.  He also tied for first at the Southeastern Collegiate.  Additionally, Stauch tied for fifth at both the Matlock Collegiate Classic and the SSC Championship.  Playing 24 rounds of golf, Stauch posted a 71.25 stroke average.

Gordin wins Coach of the Year honors after leading Florida Southern to its second SSC title in three years.  Competing in nine events, the Moccasins posted seven top-five finishes.  In addition to winning the SSC Championship, the Mocs also took the top prize at the USF Invitational.  They placed second at the Queens Invitational and the Southeastern Collegiate.  Currently ranked No. 3 in the latest Nike/Golf World Coaches Poll, FSC has finished no lower than third in any event in which it has competed in the spring portion of its schedule.  The award marks Gordin’s third Coach of the Year recognition, as he also garnered the distinction in 1999 and 2001.

A product of Crystal River, Fla., Brothers tallied a 74.8 stroke average over 22 rounds of action.  He posted two top-10 finishes, including one top-five performance.  Brothers tied for second at the Treasure Coast Classic and tied for seventh at the Titan Winter Invitational.  His best round of the season was a 68 at the Treasure Coast Classic.
