220 SSC Student-Athletes Among Academic Achievement Awards Recipients

A total of 220 student-athletes representing five SSC institutions have been honored as recipients of the Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) Academic Achievement Awards.  Barry University, Florida Southern College, Lynn University, Saint Leo University, and the University of Tampa were all represented among the honorees.

In all, 150 DII institutions submitted nominees for the 2008-09 Academic Achievement Awards.  More than 4,000 student-athletes were recognized across the country.  That number eclipses last year’s total of 2,155 student-athletes who were honored.

In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, he/she must meet the following criteria:  1.) have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, 2.) have completed a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work, and 3.) have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.

Student-athletes must be nominated from an institution whose athletics director is a member of the association.

The DII ADA is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
