Tampa's Vanderhall and Lynn's Schade Named Volleyball Players of the Week
Tampa's Melissa Vanderhall and Lynn's Christie Schade have been tabbed Sunshine State Conference Volleyball Players of the Week for the period ending October 26.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Tampa sophomore outside hitter Melissa Vanderhall (Hempstead, N.Y.) led the No. 6 Spartans to three wins, including a pair of conference victories over Saint Leo and No. 8 Florida Southern. Vanderhall averaged 4.0 kills, 1.5 digs, 0.8 service aces, and 0.5 blocks per set. She recorded a solid .375 attack percentage. Vanderhall notched 13 kills and five service aces in a three-set sweep over SLU. She narrowly missed a double-double with 18 kills, nine digs, and four blocks in a four-set win versus FSC. She rounded out the week with 17 kills and six digs in five-set win over Dowling.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Lynn senior libero Christie Schade (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) led the Fighting Knights to a pair of SSC road victories, averaging 5.2 digs per set. In a five-set victory over Florida Tech, Schade tallied 21 digs. She then had 26 digs in a four-set win at Rollins. Her efforts helped limit Lynn’s opponents to a .105 attack percentage.
