UT Mourns Loss of Former Women's Soccer Student-Athlete Nicole Murphy
The SSC joins the University of Tampa in mourning the loss of former all-conference women's soccer standout Nicole Murphy, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident while attending the World Cup.
Murphy was a 2008 graduate and four-year starter for the women’s soccer team. She was reportedly killed in South Africa on Tuesday.
Murphy, who was a member of the 2007 national championship women’s soccer team, was in South Africa with her family for the World Cup. Murphy graduated from UT magna cum laude in May 2008 and was a member of the UT Honors Program. According to news reports, Murphy was in her second year of medical school.
The Tampa Tribune ran an article about the accident in Thursday's online edition. UT coach Gerry Lucey reflected on Murphy's death in an article on the Spartans' website.
