2012 All-SSC Men's Cross Country Team Announced
Eight student-athletes have been named to the 2012 All-Sunshine State Conference Cross Country Team. Florida Tech’s Chris Cacciapaglia was named Runner of the Year. Saint Leo’s Carl Dunne was selected Freshman of the Year. Nova Southeastern’s Bryan Hagopian was tabbed Coach of the Year.
Joining Cacciapaglia and Dunne on the all-conference team were: David Boiywo (Florida Tech), Timo Kilp (Nova Southeastern), Moses Kirui (Florida Tech), Kevin Meagher (Nova Southeastern), David Tomchinsky (Florida Southern), and Chris Yanichko (Florida Southern).
A graduate student from Vashon, Wash., Cacciapaglia logged four top-10 finishes this fall, including three top-five performances. He won the SSC Championship with an 8K time of 25:56.60. He kicked off the season by placing fifth at the UT Early Bird Classic. He was the runner-up at the Saint Leo Invitational and seventh at the Florida State Invitational. His efforts in those two races earned recognition as the SSC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week presented by VALIC in the consecutive weeks of Oct. 1 and Oct. 8.
In his debut season at Saint Leo, Dunne kicked off his collegiate career in fine fashion, winning the first race of the season, the UT Early Bird Classic. Taking the event with a time of 20:20.66, Dunne became the first runner in the history of Saint Leo’s program to log an individual victory. As a result of his efforts, he was awarded SSC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week presented by VALIC. Dunne would go on to register two more top-10 finishes. He placed fifth at the Saint Leo Invitational and was seventh at the USF Invitational.
In his fifth season at Nova Southeastern, Hagopian led the Sharks to the first SSC Men’s Cross Country Championship in school history. Hagopian’s squad tallied three top-five finishes in five races this fall. In addition to winning the SSC Championship, the Sharks finished second at the USF Invitational and third at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational. Three NSU runners earned All-Championship honors by placing in the top 10 at the SSC meet. Kevin Meagher came in second, while Timo Kilp was fifth, and Jordan Brown placed seventh.
Voting for the All-SSC Men’s Cross Country Team was conducted among league cross country coaches and sports information directors.
