Lynn Women's Basketball Assists A Brush with Kindness

Lynn University’s women’s basketball team was an active participant in the National Day of Service and Remembrance, helping Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, September 8.
The Fighting Knights reached out to Christine Jenkins, of Boca Raton, and painted and primed her house as part of the program A Brush with Kindness.
“The work that we did with Habitat and Brush with Kindness is one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever been a part of,” said head coach Niki Washington. “It was so great doing something special for someone like Christine [Jenkins] and the girls really connected with her emotionally. I believe that giving is one of the most gratifying experiences a person can have and the bond and connections the players made are stronger than any other team building we could do.”
Christine Jenkins’ story begins in 1947 when she met and married her husband of over 60 years James Wesley Jenkins. The couple welcomed five sons and a daughter over their life and was heavily committed to service and community. Following the tragic loss of her husband James six years ago, Mrs. Jenkins has been maintaining her home on her own.
Having demonstrated the admirable qualities of perseverance, faith and purpose in life, Habitat for Humanity and Lynn University reached out to help with the beautification of her home.
Habitat for Humanity’s A Brush with Kindness is an exterior home preservation service that offers painting, landscaping, weather stripping and minor repair services for homeowners in need. ABWK helps low-income homeowners impacted by age, disability and family circumstances, who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes, reclaim their homes with pride and dignity.
