Amy O'Brien Named Tech Volleyball Head Coach

Florida Tech Athletic Director Bill Jurgens named Amy O’Brien head volleyball coach on Friday.
O’Brien takes over the program after being named interim head coach earlier this spring. Prior to being named interim head coach, she served as an assistant coach at FIT for the last two seasons.
“I am very pleased that Amy has accepted the head volleyball coach position at Florida Tech,” Jurgens said. “She excelled here as a student-athlete, athletics’ staff member, assistant coach and interim head coach. We are fortunate to have someone who cares so much for our student-athletes and Florida Tech.”
As an assistant coach, O’Brien focused on the Panthers’ defense and serve-receive with the liberos and defensive specialists.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to be the head coach at Florida Tech,” O’Brien said. “I’d like to thank Bill Jurgens and the staff for supporting my vision for the volleyball program. Our main goal is to elevate the program to the level we know it’s capable of achieving. We worked hard this spring in the weight room and on the court. We look forward to building on this progress moving into the fall season.”
O’Brien totaled 1,717 career digs in her four-year collegiate career at the libero position. She played two years at Florida State College at Jacksonville, earning NJCAA All-Region, Florida Community College Activities Association All-State and All Mid-Florida Conference. She then played two years at FIT and finished her tenure only 13 digs away from accumulating 1,000 digs as a Panther. Her 487 digs in 2009 ranked third in the Sunshine State Conference.
O’Brien graduated from Florida Tech with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2009. She is currently working towards her Master of Business Administration degree.
