Barry, NSU, and EC's Evanier Qualify for NCAA Men's Golf Championship

Barry climbed one spot into second, and Nova Southeastern rocketed from 14th to third to take two of the five NCAA Championship qualifier spots on Wednesday at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/Southeast Super Regional. Eckerd's Jeff Evanier claimed one of two individual qualifying spots to advance to Louisville, Ky., next week.
Tied for third place after Tuesday's second round, Barry held steady to post a final score of 870 (295-289-286), just one stroke behind team champion Georgia College. Nova Southeastern shaved a whopping 20 strokes off its second-round score to card an 11-under 277 in Wednesday's final round. The Sharks finished with an 872 (298-297-277). UNC-Pembroke (876) and USC-Aiken (880) claimed the South/Southeast Regional's final two spots in the NCAA Championship field.
Evanier posted a two-over 74, his highest round of the tournament in Wednesday's final round, but his performance on the first two days secured his advancement. Evanier concluded the event with a 212 (70-68-74), which tied him for fifth. Georgia Southwestern's J.P. Griffin, who tied for second, earned the other individual qualifier spot.
Florida Tech slipped four spots in the final team standings, concluding the regional in sixth place with a score of 881 (286-295-300). Lynn finished ninth (288-298-300=886). Florida Southern placed 10th (297-293-298=888). Rollins was 11th (291-301-297=889). Eckerd landed in 16th place (295-295-305=895).
In the individual standings, NSU's Ben Taylor finished tied for second with a 211 (71-70-70). Barry's Marcus Segerstrom tied for seventh with a 213 (74-70-69), aided by his final-round, three-under 69.
The NCAA DII Men's Golf Championship will be contested May 15-19 at The Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky. The tournament will be part of the DII Championships Festival.
ROUND TWO RECAP
Florida Tech slipped back one spot to second but sits just one stroke out of the lead with 18 holes remaining at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/Southeast Super Regional. Ten strokes separate leader Georgia College from the other eight teams in the top nine, and a number of SSC teams remain within striking distance.
Georgia College has posted a two-round score of 580 (291-289) to take the top spot on the team leaderboard. Florida Tech's 581 (286-295) is second. Barry is tied for third with a tally of 584 (295-289). Lynn occupies the sixth spot with a 586 (288-298). Florida Southern (297-293) and Eckerd (295-295) are tied for seventh with a two-day mark of 590. Rollins is tied for 12th (291-301=592), and Nova Southeastern is 14th (298-297=595).
Eckerd's Jeff Evanier has scorched the course at the Rock Bar Golf & Spa, carding a four-under-par 68 on Tuesday to take the top spot in the individual standings with a two-round score of 138 (70-68). Evanier holds a two-stroke lead over Matt Atkins of USC-Aiken.
NSU's Ben Taylor also remains in the hunt for the individual title, shooting a two-under 70 on day two to take his total to 141 (71-70). Florida Tech's Christian Westhorpe (70-72=142) sits just one stroke behind Taylor and is tied for eighth.

ROUND ONE RECAP
Florida Tech took the early lead at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/Southeast Regional, posting a first-round 286 to take a two-stroke lead over Lynn. Play resumes with 18 holes on Tuesday at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.
Rollins is tied for fourth with a 291. Barry and Eckerd are tied for seventh with a 295. Florida Southern is tied for 11th (297), and Nova Southeastern is tied for 13th (298).
Georgia Southwestern's J.P. Griffin took the early lead in the individual standings, carding a four-under-par 68. Eckerd's Jeff Evanier, Lynn's Ernesto Vitienes, and Tech's Christian Westhorpe are part of a seven golfer tie for third with a first-round score of 70 (-2).
Competing as an individual, Saint Leo's Nick Brothers is tied for 29th with a one-over 73.

PREVIEW
Seven of the SSC's nine teams have received bids to compete in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/Southeast Super Regional, which will be held at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C., May 7-9. In addition to seven teams, Saint Leo's Nick Brothers has been invited to compete as an individual.
Nova Southeastern, Barry, Lynn, Florida Southern, Rollins, Florida Tech, and Eckerd will all head north to vie for the regional championship.
The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the Division II finals May 15-19 at The Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky. The championship will be held as part of the 2012 Division II Spring Championships Festival.
