Throughout the offseason, Lynn University’s volleyball team has shown a steadfast commitment to supporting Lynn’s mission through bettering the Boca Raton community by volunteering their time with four different organizations this semester.
Each class, freshmen, sophomore, juniors and seniors, has taken the lead each week to put together a new project for the team. So far they have done four projects.
“I am extremely proud of the initiative the girls have shown and the number of hours they have sacrificed this semester,” Lynn head volleyball coach Lynze Roos said. “We not only have great athletes on our team but also kids with an incredible amount of character as well.”
The volleyball team first spent time with an organization called Family Promise and worked as meal hosts. Family Promise is a charitable organization that utilizes existing resources of local faith communities. Their churches and synagogues work together to assist children and their families that have become homeless in the community. The program provides temporary shelter, meals, and support services with the goal to restore the families to sustained independence.
In addition to Family Promise, Lynn’s volleyball team volunteered at a clothing drive for Wayside House. The mission of Wayside House is to treat and rehabilitate women who suffer from substance addictions and return them and their families to society as clean and productive members of the community.
The third organization the volleyball team volunteered their time was Stradford Court and helped with their Valentine’s Day bingo. Dedicated to quality and service, Stratford Court provides a range of services and accommodations for seniors.
To conclude their busy volunteer schedule, the team assisted in the aftercare programs at Florence Fuller Child Development Center. The mission of Florence Fuller is s to make a positive difference in the lives of young children from economically challenged families in the community.
The team plans on continuing to serve the community with another event scheduled for April.
