Chivas USA announced Tuesday that the club has acquired New York native goalkeeper, Tim Melia. The 25-year-old Melia has already joined the Goats for the pre-season workouts in Carson, Calif.
After trials with Real Salt Lake during their pre-season, Melia signed with the club (RSL) on March 16, 2010; he was sent on loan to USL2 side Charleston Battery in April (2010).
Melia, 25, originally from Great River, N.Y., was a part of the Real Salt Lake for the past two seasons.
He finished his collegiate career as one of the top goalkeepers to ever attend Lynn University, placing in the Fighting Knights’ career top-five in shutouts (18, T-5th), GAA (0.65, 3rd) and saves (85, 5th). As a senior in 2007, Melia started all 18 games for Lynn, posting a 14-2-1 record with eight shutouts, 47 saves, a 0.80 GAA and .770 save percentage. He was selected as the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year for his efforts.
